Lesbian activist, Gay vet refused admission to DCCC fundraising event with Fierce Advocate
via Americablog: We've just learned that two LGBT leaders, Itzel Diaz and Anthony Woods, were denied access to the DCCC's fundraising event with President Obama in Miami today.

Anthony is well known to readers of AMERICAblog. Last year, we supported his campaign for Congress in California. He's an Army veteran who was kicked out of the military under dont ask, dont tell....

Itzel is a leader in the Miami LGBT community. She sent her information to the DCCC by the deadline on Friday at 5pm. She was paying to attend the event and bringing Anthony as her guest. She also spoke with the DCCC RSVP contact and was told there was room for both to attend. She simply needed to send her info over by the deadline (which she did) and it would be sent to the White House for clearance. The DCCC informed her that she would hear back from them at 11 am today. However, when they did not call at 11 am, Itzel phoned the DCCC and was informed that they were both denied access by the White House.

Yes, according to the DCCC, the White House did not want Itzel and Anthony at the event. Makes me think the President doesn't want to have to defend his inaction on DADT.

This is very interesting to say the least.

Next year, of coures, Team Obama will be begging LGBT donors to come to his events. But, for now, they don't want us around.

And anyone here would be embarrassed to post a flagrantly disingenuous OP like this! What the hell has happened? I'm really tired of this BS.

Furthering bullshit is a GOTP tactic that should NOT BE ALLOWED on DU!

15. There seem to be two sides of the story
Is GetEqual the same group which took to shouting at Obama during the Boxer fundraiser a while back?

http://www.washingtonblade.com/2010/10/11/getequal-to-s... /

GetEQUAL to stage massive protest against Obama

...

While the protest for the most part proceeded as intended, Woods was denied access to the event as well as local activist Itzel Diaz, according to a GetEQUAL statement. The organization said the activists were informed the White House made the decision against letting them in the fundraiser.

But the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee denied GetEQUALs account of this aspect of the protest.

DCCC spokesman Ryan Rudominer said, Ms. Diaz called on Friday and said she may be interested in attending the event with a guest. However, Ms. Diaz did not confirm attendance, payment was not submitted, and no information was provided for vetting.

21. "While the protest for the most part proceeded as intended" seems to be the key line

The stories differ on what information was provided when and to whom.

However, from the perspective of the activists, the event seem to be characterized as one part of the various protests which did not work out.

In other words, the purpose of seeking to attend the event seems to have been to disrupt the event.

That would also seem to go without saying to some extent, since it appears the grievance here does not seem that they were denied an opportunity to donate to the campaign, which was the purpose of the event.

I would imagine that if they had intended to make a $5,000 campaign donation, then that option is still open to them.

Remember that Obama wouldn't shake Gavin Newsome's hand. Why? Well, I guess one has to come to their own conclusions about that. But I think it's all related somehow and having something to do with not alienating the bigoted vote.

27. Thank you for posting this, Bluebear. K&R
I make the rounds of the various online sites....Towleroad, Daily Kos. I didn't get a chance to get to Americablog this morning.

It looks increasingly like the Obama Adminstration's interaction, such as it is, with the GLBT community is sending someone to the HRC's swanky $275 a plate black tie yearly dinner to give a speech telling us how "deeply" they care about GLBT equality, etc. This sad situation of those 2 activists being refused to meet with Obama also explains why Obama has never sat down with anyone from the GLBT media (Kerry Eleveld of the Advocate would be the perfect interview). And why Obama has gotten face time with various constituencies (African-Americans, Native Americans) but not with the GLBT base.

Team Obama can beg me all they want for my $$$$, but that ain't happening. Not until he actually acts like a "Fierce Advocate", at least making some damn phone calls to lobby Congress for things like DADT repeal, which I was somehow able to do.
