Fox "News" cites anonymous "source" in identifying "voice" behind WhoreGate: Jerry Brown's wife
EXCLUSIVE: Sources Point to Brown's Wife As Voice Heard Calling Whitman A "Whore"

by Jake Gibson | October 10, 2010

http://politics.blogs.foxnews.com/2010/10/10/exclusive-sources-point-browns-wife-voice-heard-calling-whitman-whore

People with knowledge of what happened inside the room say the voice heard calling Meg Whitman a "whore" is none other than Jerry Brown's wife.

The slur was part of a voicemail revealed on Thursday, wherein Jerry Brown called a Los Angeles police union seeking support. Brown evidently thought he had hung up, but the recording continued and an impromptu campaign strategy session ensued.

During the conversation someone called Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman a "whore," for allegedly cutting a deal with the police union in exchange for their endorsement.

The Brown campaign is making no official comment on the matter, however people with knowledge of what went on in the room tell Fox News that the voice heard on tape calling Meg Whitman a "whore" is Jerry Brown's wife, Anne Gust Brown.

3. Who the f&%k cares? Imagine what we'd hear on a tape of Rs who didn't know they were being taped.
Now that would be interesting, and relevant.

4. has any other source run this story? consider this source please
and, it would seem, you are just repeating it.

The Brown campaign (and we) need to keep the heat on Whitman. Brown should pound away on the real issues and differences whenever this comes up. They apologized so now it would seem that Meg and Fox want to make this election about her feelings getting hurt rather than talk about what she would do to California if god forbid she is elected.

8. I think there is value in letting people know what Meg/Fox are doing
Edited on Sun Oct-10-10 09:00 PM by KurtNYC
which is to try and shift the debate away from her management style and what she would do to a state that is already in desperate trouble. They don't want to talk about that and they sure don't want to talk any more about Nicky Diaz. Whitman failed to respond to multiple inquiries from the IRS when Diaz's social security number did not match her name. And Whitman's actions were to continue to employ Diaz and then, before the election, tell her:

"From now on you don't know me and I don't know you,"

Is that what Whitman would be telling Californians about 4 years from now ?

edit to add "what" to final sentence.

14. Anything that demeans women is sexist no matter the source.
You can criticize Whitman for any number of things, but you should not dismiss sexism just because you do not like the person who is its target.

18. In this case, I don't think the term was used in a sexist fashion.
I think it was used as a technical definition.

A "whore" is a person who takes money for shady services provided. Here, Whitman is being called a "whore" for striking a deal using money for nefarious reasons.

Why would any union, anywhere, especially a police union, support an uber-rich Republican whose party spits on unions?

And I know Anne Gust's voice. She doesn't sound like a man.

This is pure bullshit.

15. It's good to know that with California in the dumpster...
... these are the kinds of things that decide elections.

The media never gets tired of the inane distractions that obscure the fundamental issues.

Controversially, I include Whitman/Allred/Diaz-Santillian flap in the list of distractions.

The budget process is hopeless, the state education system is barely hanging on, the unemployment rate is even worse than the national average, and the whole government is tied in knots by a bunch of poorly thought-out initiatives. And the media focuses on this kind of stuff.

19. Anyone who has ever worked in a campaign has heard worse said.
It is exceedingly common to refer to the GOP opponent as a "whore" for various interests in meetings of the inner circle. So common it's ridiculous for anyone to pretend it's not.
