Is Rasmussen good or evil?
Edited on Sun Oct-10-10 12:18 PM by Mefistofeles
When Rasmussen has President Obama's approval up (49% right now), we tout his poll. But when his polls find a Republican leading a Democrat, we go, "Disregard. It's (R)asmussen!

Which is it?

3. Razzy is not a reliable poll. Their samples are too small
and their methods are, ahem, suspect. They're much more friendly to Republicans than the big polls like AP/Ipsos/Reid and Harris, which are the two gold standard polls these days.

No matter what a Razzy poll says, take it with a pound of salt.

5. Aw, now you're sticking up for Rasmussen. The issue is they
consistently show Republicans doing better when they are behind.

Oh, I see you meant the polling outfit, not rasputin 1952, the DU mod.

7. By evidence I've seen Rassmussen is a partisan pollster that often favors...
Republicans. That makes him possible inaccurate, definitely partisan but not evil or good.

9. Evil.
I don't really care what they have Obama's approval rating at day-to-day--daily tracking for Presidential approval is just south of meaningless.

12. They're like Fox News polls. Whenever Fox has good numbers for Dems,
you can assume that the real numbers are even better.

Same thing with Rasmussen.

13. You mean the polling agency run by Scott Rasmussen who wrote...
this book: "Mad as Hell: How the Tea Party Movement is Fundamentally Remaking Our Two-Party System."

and wrote a pro teabagger/pro Paladino opinion in the New Y

What's powering Paladino: He's not a joke - he's part of a Tea Party movement fueled by raw anger

snip

Another potential plus for Paladino is that prominent members of the New York political establishment from both parties, such as Ed Koch, Carl McCall and Alphonse D'Amato, have come together to call him unfit and unqualified for office. They wrote an open letter claiming that "anger overcame reason and enabled a fringe element to choose the Republican nominee. The end result was the selection of Mr. Paladino, a divisive figure simply not fit to lead this great state."

Yet, the political establishment in New York - Democrat and Republican alike - as an institution has been sufficiently discredited that such efforts to denounce Paladino from all sides could very well help enhance his appeal to an already angry and frustrated electorate.

Wake up and smell the tea. The fact that he is not tied to current policies and politicians is one of Paladino's greatest assets. The very things that have made Paladino radioactive with the political class - his attacks on political elites like Sheldon Silver, Pataki and D'Amato, and his impolitic statements on a wide range of subjects - could well be appealing to voters at large, demonstrating his willingness to say what he believes no matter what the political consequence is.

Moreover, there is a broad-based desire in New York to elect candidates who are fiscally prudent and not tied to current policies.
