My son enlisted in the army today.
He ships out on June 11. I wonder how many conservative websites could have a similar post. My guess is not too many. The warmongers let others actually fight the war. And by the way, GWB is still a freakin' idiot.

6. Three rules ...
If it moves, salute it.
If it doesn't move, paint it.
NEVER volunteer!

Bonus: It doesn't pay to show off one's marksmanship on the firing range.

12. You have my sympathies...
But seriously, many of us would have gladly blocked the door to the recruiter's office until we were able to tell your son what the hell he was getting into.

16. My nephew enlisted last August, is now through his training and at Ft. Hood.
Most likely the next stop is Iraq. I tried to talk him out of it but he wouldn't listen. He wouldn't join the Navy or Air Force because he thought they were too wimpy. I am more worried about his being psychologically destroyed rather than physically wounded. Let me add that it is very easy for people to ask, "How could you let your kid enlist?" Kids will do what they will do and we are not talking about 9 year olds here. As a parent you can only do the best you can and advise the best you can for when your children become adults they will make their own choices and have to face their own consequences.

19. He 'ships out' on June 11??? wtf???
Edited on Sun May-20-07 08:41 AM by Breeze54
Don't you really mean he goes to boot camp in June??

Shipping out implies he's going overseas. I doubt it. Not yet anyway.

Why did he join the military and why did he choose the Army?

Curious......

22. Hopefully the surge will be over soon
So by the time he finishes basic training, and AIT (hopefully a good MOS), it will be the fall or winter. Maybe he'll be lucky and stay stateside.

Good luck!
