Hissyspit's "One Nation" Rally PHOTO Thread (Home-made, Eyewitness, First-Person & All)
A reunion of sorts, as I met up with Proud2bLibKansan AND, unbeknownst to me, SharonRB was here too, so we were together again for the first time since Netroots Nation '09.

And I was back at the Lincoln Memorial for the first time since the inaugural concert with Springsteen and U2. An historical spot, of course. Some dickweed con artist named Breck or Bock or something had a rally there last month.

Anyway, enjoy (taken with iPhone4):

Curious . . . I wonder if the FailFest or any of the TeaBirther rallies feature such heavily armed personnel . . . you know, the kind that AREN'T rally participants.

29. At the townhalls, it sometimes looked like the cops were outgunned
But I suspect the level of security is pretty much the same whether an event is sponsored by the Left or the Right, subject to the size and place of the event and intelligence on potential threats.

77. Vietnam Wall
I will never forget my visit to the Vietnam Memorial, it was late, near midnight and there were still many people there including a National Park guide to assist people. I had no idea how it would affect me that is for certain. This was many years ago on a very quick visit to DC.
Damn this war loving country.

79. I had been there many times, but it had been a long time.
Again, after all these years later I was struck by how affecting and innovative a work it was despite all the protests and demands for a "realistic/naturalistic" sculptural memorial. Sometimes what people want is not want they need.

It's like descending into a grave.

I wish i could have gone. Someone said on another thread for every one person there there were at least 10 who had to work or hadn't the resources to go... i am the latter.

It's so good to see the positive signs and people gathering for good reason - unity and peace and hope
We need tons more of that kind of thinking in this country...on the whole freakiong planet.

It is also awesome to see how many folks there were holding End the War signs...hope the White House notices too...

17. Some one said these pictures bring tears to their eyes
well all the love and honor and patriotism that you can see by this rally is making me cry damn it and the tears are rolling. The republicans could never invoke the pride and compassion this rally inspires in us. the dignity and actions speak for themselves. The hate and violence and racist signs are for the low calls tea bags and radical republicans. We don't need that type of stuff to promote our feelings. We are true blue Americans and believe in America and not corporations.

78. Slightly or more significantly larger than the Beck rally.
I'm no good at #s, but I wasn't expecting this many and impressive considering the lack of of non-stop Fox News, Internet and MSM promotion that we saw with the Speck Beck rally.

Of course, therefore it deserved LESS media coverage.

Edited on Sun Oct-03-10 08:48 AM by Hissyspit
When I came to the inauguration concert, it was standing room only for most of the area.

If there were more people at the Beck thing, it just means that there many many bigots and hypocrites at the Lincoln Memorial.

30. MSNBC should (tongue in cheekly) report attendance of 4 million people - show fox how to inflate #s
Since about 3,000 people actually attended the Beck/Nazi Party/Krystal Nacht/Fear/Hate/Fear/Death to Grandma/Hate/Fear/Fear/Fear/Fear rally but the attendance numbers on FOX grew about 1,000 or 10,000 percent throughout the day of their coverage! (daily show made sport of that)

I wish I could have been there. My disability makes it impossible to leave my house some days. Believe me I was definitely there in spirit (especially with the Democratic Socialist contingent).

I counted three people of color at Beckkk's "rally". It would be useless for me to even try with this one. There is a rainbow of skin colors at this one. And more commonality of message than I am used to seeing at a progressive rally.

51. I have renewed HOPE...
Many people are waking up to the danger of the teabaggers, seeing this makes me believe that Obama will be able to mobilize the base again and so Democrats will not lose control of the Congress next month. The message will be loud and clear that the teabags movement to control the country has failed and they are relegated to the fringe element of the Racist, nazi rightwing...

The GOP will have no choice but to support Obama's agenda or be trounced in 2012 as the totally inept party of no obstuctionists that they are.... In other words this being a referendum on Obama's agenda means that the country will be approving of moving forward.

Thanks for the pictures...

81. And just how did I detect that it wasn't a teabagger rally?
Easy: the smiling people, their ethnic diversity, their age diversity, and ALL THE SIGNS WERE SPELLED CORRECTLY.

85. Yes indeed
the whole vibe was so nice, so cool, so wholesome. I have always been worried walking around some rallies, about my purse, or safety, or what-not . . . but not this one. Such a relaxed atmosphere . . . even the police officers that I saw were either smiling or yawning or laughing with each other.

Just a whole-person healthy vibe. Very nice. Diverse, and happy, and all ages, and all looking to assist each other with whatever. Very very nice.

thank you so much for documenting. Oddly enough I found the picture of the African American boy in camouflage shirt with both hands outstretched on the Vietnam memorial the most compelling. What a powerful image. Could be in Time magazine, IMHO.

89. The one I missed by a few seconds was a one-in-a-million iconic picture. I'm not kidding.
I'm not kidding. I had never seen a "Vietnam Wall Picture" like it before. And I missed it by seconds getting my camera app open again.

96. Loved the pictures
Thanks for posting the pictures loved them. I just went over to CNN.com to see how they covered it. What a bunch of asshats. They had one wide angle picture in the ten they posted and that was the one we all saw early in the day when the vast part of the crowd hadn't arrived yet. All the other pictures were of small groups, signs or single people.
