5. I will vote Democrat and for Obama again, simply
because the Republicans are far worse. But I do not agree at all with the neoliberal bent of the Democratic Party leaders, from Obama to Clinton, et al. Not its foreign policy or its reform of education.

That wing of the party benefits the oligarchs alone, not the American people.

14. That is part of the party's history, as you emphasize.
One I do not agree with, but with regards to its handling of the depression, far superior to the current administration's efforts.

3. Are you talking about the Credo or the philosophy that states
"We will give away any strength we have gained to ensure the corporations do not feel left out."

6. We are the ONLY party that has a valid philosophy. The GOP is a collection
of cartoon figures searching for public ego gratification who think everyone is as shallow as they are.

Republicans are trash.

7. What is our Philosophy today??? When a reporter asked
a similar question of Nancy Pelosi. "Fairness.".

I hope we stand for more than fairness. I have not
heard any Democratic Member of House or Senate express
a philosophical belief.

I am not being sarcastic.

9.  I know I am venomently opposed to the republicon philosophy
that has been clearly spelled out throughout my lifetime.
I have been waiting the whole time for the Democrats to actually come out with and campaign on a philosophy that is similar to my own.
Clear stand on the use of Congressional War Powers.
Clear positions on the environment.
Clear stands for equal rights for all.
Clear fiscal responsibility that balances personal responsibility and responsibility to our national community.
A philosophy that expresses how the nation gains when all of us gain.
A philosophy that honors achievement in the arts and sciences.
And along with these simple principles the balls to vote in line with a party platform.

11. This gets to the heart of the problem - what exactly is the
philosophy? Who best represents our philosophy - Al Franken or Blanche Lincoln? Ted Kennedy or Ben Nelson?

All elected Democrats are NOT equal and part of the problem in the real world (and definitely here on DU) is that peole have different interpretations of what the party stands for and how much we should fight for. And how much of our principles we are willing to compromise.

Personally, I think Bernie Sanders is more representative of what I consider Democratic principles than are most Democrats.

17. What philosophy?
We appear to have two different philosophies at work here -- the FDR/liberal/civil rights/People before Power Democrats and the I (heart) Wall Street/socially right Democrats.

I was the former. I agree with that Democratic philosophy and support it. I don't have much use for the later.

18. "Other"
I do not believe that there is a single "Democratic Party" philosophy. There are many factions and sub-groups within the Democratic Party. Even on this forum, we see huge divisions between three groups: the progressives, the liberals, and the moderate/conservatives. To borrow an Abbie Hoffman line, the members of DU couldn't agree on lunch.

Even within the tiny group of democratic elected officials in DC, there are significant differences. Those differences have two potentials: to make the party stronger; or to reduce its strength. In my opinion, it has bled the party, because the majority of those elected officials -- who incorrectly view themselves as "leaders" -- have betrayed what that core agreement that should unite us.

Just my opinion.

20. It is the voters that make us strong, not the dogma.
Republicans win by suppressing the vote. Dems win by turning out the vote. That tells you everything you need to know about the parties.

21. Which philosophy ?
I don't see one on the website - democrats.org (I assume that's the Party you mean).

I see this:

For over 200 years, Democrats have stood for the idea that wealth and status should not be an entitlement to rule. Democrats recognize that our country and our economy are strongest when they provide opportunity for all Americans—when we grow our country from the bottom up.

Democrats stand for an abiding faith in the judgment of hardworking American families, and a commitment to helping the excluded, the disenfranchised and the poor strengthen our nation by earning themselves a piece of the American Dream. We remember that our country was sculpted by immigrants and slaves, their children and grandchildren. Even today, it is our diversity above all else that provides us with our enduring strength.

Democrats believe that each of us has an obligation to each other, to our neighbors and our communities. Each of us has a role to play in creating our future—and while we have made great progress as a nation, we know that our work is never done.

Do I agree with the basic principles stated in that brief? Sure. What rational individual wouldn't? Do I believe that those principles are what really drives the party? That's an entirely different question.
