The sad state of our nooze media
Edited on Thu Sep-30-10 08:58 PM by nadinbrzezinski
Well today there was an attempted coup in Ecuador... I learned off this on ... DU.

Two weeks ago a major hurricane did all kinds of damage in Veracruz, Tabasco, the State of Mexico... I knew of it since I was IN MEXICO.

And yes I had CNN... which went out of it's way not to cover it, and CNNI which mentioned it in passing, and worst, CNN en Espanol, which looked like FOX, out of it's way NOT to cover it.

I pointed out this two weeks ago, and also how that relates to our American Exceptionalism.

Let me repost the photos from that disaster... and why I suspect our media did not cover it.

Day three

Day two...

And my journal

Food for thought in fact.

By the way Rachel is covering critical news, but what about that coup?

1. Didn't you hear?
Celebs like Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton getting into trouble are far more important than some silly coup or some lame hurricane. :sarcasm:

Thank Goddess for Keith and Rachel, but other than them I don't even bother with the M$M anymore -- I get most of my news from here.. which is sad.. there are far more important things to cover than the recent troubles of celebrities.

2. And neither of them covered Karl or the coup
our nooze is in real bad shape.

But Karl, I get it. Calderon actually went on Scene by day two (Granted he did not do that during the floods of two years ago so he got racked over the coals). So of course the comparison is there.

And a coup in "our backyard?" I wonder if it succeeded if (surely we would have) covered it.

3. The lid continues to be screwed on ever tighter.
It's far past time to climb out of the jar.

4. Why I suspect they want to close the net down
closed societies require that.

5. The purpose of "Nooze" is to make a profit...
As long as profit drives the "Nooze" any news will be in small quantities and most often accidental.

Americans have a long history of preferring the view of their navel to that of the world.

6. It goes beyond that
At this point we really, REALLY want a closed society. They also want to close down the web and end net neutrality.

Control, I hate to sound like we are going the direction of China, but we are.

11. Not even that. The purpose is to control & pacify the population.
Making a profit is really incidental.

10. Both fully covered on NPR and the NY Times. Those who rely on cable news...
are doomed to ignorance.

I've found both to run stories I don't see on DU for days, when Alternet or some other aggregator finally finds them. Or Rachel reads the story and repeats it.

(Actually, I find even local teevee nooze is often better at world events than cable.)

12. And that is the fucking point
but that is ok.

Hubby heard of the coup on BBC... not surprising though.

MSNBC has an excuse, they ARE US POLITICAL news, and at that they are good.

But CNN? CNN does have INTERNATIONAL bureaus. Anemic at that but they do.
