3. This reminds me of a more famous Presidential visit to Richmond.
Lincoln visited Richmond, the capital of the confederacy, soon after it was captured by union soldiers.

I'm not trying to compare Obama to Lincoln. But a woman who was born in 1905 is old enough to have met someone who was there on the day when Lincoln visited. It amazes me how much has changed in the spansof just two lifetimes.

6. I read about that day in a Lincoln bio I just finished.
The whites of the city covered their windows and refused to even look at him. While the freed slaves fell to his feet and wept with joy and tried to kissed his feet.

Lincoln said, "Don't kneel to me, that is not right. You must kneel to God only and thank him for the liberty you will enjoy hereafter enjoy."

Throughout his trip he was surrounded by cheering blacks who shouted, "Bless the Lord, Father Abrahams Come."

7. You know, I'm barely into my 30s, but even I think it's weird...
that a 105 year old was born in the 20th century. I mean, doesn't that feel like 19th century sort of stuff?
