Meg Whitman's Housekeeper -- 'Explosive' Allegations

9/29/2010 4:00 AM PDT by TMZ Staff

http://www.tmz.com/2010/09/28/gloria-allred-explosive-allegations-meg-whitman-governor-of-california-election-republican-candidate-latina/

UPDATE: Meg Whitman's campaign chairman, former California Governor Pete Wilson, tells TMZ he is unaware of any claim by Whitman's former housekeeper, but "The timing of this is highly suspect."

The former housekeeper for Meg Whitman -- the Republican candidate for Governor of California -- is about to make "controversial and explosive allegations about her former employer," TMZ has learned.

We're told the housekeeper has lawyered up with none other than Gloria Allred. The housekeeper and Allred will hold a news conference today in Gloria's office at 11 AM PT, "to tell how she suffered as a long-time, Latina household employee in Meg Whitman's home."

We're told the housekeeper will be filing a legal claim against Ms. Whitman.

From what we're hearing, the disclosures could have a significant impact on the campaign and possibly the election.

We will, of course, live stream the news conference. It doesn't matter where you live -- Don't miss this one.

Meg Whitman Shoves An Employee, Pays A $200,000 Settlement (Allegedly)

Former eBay CEO and current California gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman paid a ~$200,000 settlement to an eBay employee she once shoved named Young Mi Kim.

Here's the blow-by-blow from the June 7, 2007 incident, as reported in the New York Times this morning:

Ms. Kim was briefing Ms. Whitman for interview that morning by writing talking points on the whiteboard in Ms. Whitman’s personal conference room at eBay’s headquarters in San Jose, Calif.

Ms. Whitman became angry with Ms. Kim before the interview, partly because Ms. Whitman felt unprepared for the conversation with Reuters.

Ms. Kim later told at least one colleague that Ms. Whitman used an expletive and shoved her. Ms. Whitman said that she had physically guided Ms. Kim out of the conference room.

Young Mi Kim quit eBay for a couple months, but after some professional mediation (and a settlement sources tell the Times was “around $200,000") Young came back to the company and continues to work there to this day.

She's still a loyal flack good with a quote, too. Here's what Young told the Times:

“Yes, we had an unfortunate incident, but we resolved it in a way that speaks well for her and for eBay, and ultimately, I came back to the company, which is not something I had to do.”

Perhaps panicking at the news, Young deleted her professional profile from LinkedIn. But there's still a Google cache:

4. Timing indeed.
This could have a backlash effect. Just the name Gloria Allred might make some folks vote for Nutmeg out of sympathy.

Let's just hope this does have a real issue behind it and not just some frivilous lawsuit that will make Nutmeg look like a damn victim.

7. Update: "Meg Whitman -- Target of 'Personal Destruction'"
Meg Whitman -- Target of 'Personal Destruction'

Meg Whitman's camp tells TMZ ... they are the target of "personal destruction" and claims the "sleaze machine" on the left is now in overdrive.

http://www.tmz.com/2010/09/29/meg-whitman-california-governor-gloria-allred-allegations-republican/

Spokesperson Andrea Jones Rivera tells TMZ, "Gloria Allred is a shameful manipulator and the timing of today's news conference so close to the election should serve as a warning to Californians that they are witnessing dirty political smears at their worst."

As we first reported, Whitman's former housekeeper has teamed up with Gloria Allred and plans on making a legal claim stating how she "suffered" while working for Whitman.

Whitman's camp claims Allred is a Jerry Brown supporter and is "playing shameful politics again."

9. I figured this would happen
Unless this "suffering" is serious and well documented this could end up working in Nutmeg's favor.
