I'm sitting here watching my beloved Phillies for the millionth time, and in watching the byplay, as it were, I noticed an interesting reversal over the generations...
In the old days, when a runner attained a base, he rarely spoke at all to the opposition player - if he did, it was usually some early version of 'trash-talk' and there were rarely if ever, mutual smiles. But these days, they talk, pat each other on the back, exchange some humorous remark to which the both laugh and sometimes the umpire does as well. It's the millionaires-working-for-billionaires club I suppose, and they're quite cordial for the most part.
On the other hand, in the old days, Congressmen and Senators were incredibly polite to each other in public forums and were positively genteel for the most part. Now, the atmosphere has been poisoned, by the RW in my humble opinion, and civility is a thing of the past...except of course, for the Democrats who continue to utter patronizing beggings for 'bipartisanship' and 'cooperation'.
Those who say that we shouldn't stoop to the level of the RW are doomed to live under the RW thumb for all eternity. How's THAT for hyperbole?
