••• Good news, earthlings! The GOP sales tax is just what you need!!! •••

Remember how there was a British tax on TEA that played such an important role in the American Revolution?

You DO remember that, yes?

Well, now, many Republicans have signed a pledge to support what they call the FAIR TAX, a SALES tax that is FAIR because it takes the same percentage from everybody regardless of whether they are rich or poor.

Here's how it works. Say you're poor. You can't save. So all your income gets spent and it's all taxed at the checkout counter.

But the RICH have vastly more income than they can spend. (Of course the sales tax does NOT include a tax on stock purchases…)

So only a tiny fraction of the income of the rich winds up getting taxed at the checkout counter.

Now, if you are a subhuman Democrat, this may sound unfair to you. But if, sooner or later, when you get rich, SOMEDAY, you'll be GLAD you got stiffed on the way up!!!!!!!!

Then, ha-haaaaaaah! You'll REALLY make money!

And THINK of it. All those complicated IRS forms you won't have to fill out ever again! Instead, you'll just lose your shirt, won't have money to buy things, consumer spending will collapse, the economy will tank because nobody has any money to buy what the rich make, and THEN, when YOU get rich, YOU can SH*T on all the non-rich the same way!

Now, what exactly does the FAIR TAX, the sales tax, actually entail?

Just one little itty bitty taxipooh. The sales tax.

Like this:

First of all, the TEA TAX. Yup. Can't have a sales tax without adding a tax on tea, now can we? That's because the Tea Party LOVES YOU.

What else?

Tax on sugar.
Tax on spaghetti.
Tax on macaroni.
Tax on linguine.
Tax on spinach.
Tax on Brussels sprouts. You didn't like them anyway.
Tax on corn.
Tax on peas.

Tax on broccoli. Bush the 1st didn't like broccoli and it's environmentally green so who cares?

Tax on kale.
Tax on potatoes.
Tax on apples.
Tax on pears.

Tax on avocados. But so what. They come from a foreign country called California.

Tax on lettuce.
Tax on tomatoes.

Tax on peanuts. See? This tax isn't going to cost you peanuts.

Tax on milk.
Tax on cottage cheese.

Tax on yogurt. That's only for liberals ANYWAY.

Tax on Tofu. WHAT are you, a foreigner?

Tax on restaurant food. But if the restaurant had to buy some ingredients retail, you're going to get taxed on all that twice. Isn't the sales tax WONDERFUL?

Tax on beef.
Tax on chicken.

I'm your landlord. I better not smell chicken around your apartment. That's MY money you're spending. Stick to potatoes or I'll raise your rent!

Tax on soda. If it tastes good you don't have a right to drink it ANYWAY until you become rich.

Tax on bathroom tissue. Better stick to the generic brand. Charmin's too soft for you until you become rich.

The sales tax. Just one harmless itty bitty little taxipooh!

Tax, tax, tax, tax, tax.

Tax on electronics. We were planning to get rid of the internet ANYWAY, so stuff it!

Tax on hardware supplies and lumber. If you have enough money to do renovations and head down to Home Depot you need to be giving that money to the RICH. Do-it-yourself renovations take money away from real estate developers so take the sales tax and LIKE it.

Tax on office supplies. Only rich people are allowed to run companies, offices and stores. Your store needs to go out of business, buddy, so my store chain can take over.

Tax on school supplies. Child labor laws are SO FIVE MINUTES AGO. Tell your child to go out and get a job! I need cheap labor.

Tax on computer supplies. It's back to mainframes, buddy. Who told you that little people were allowed to have their own desk computers?

All these taxes are ON TOP OF whatever local sales taxes you already pay. This is a NATIONAL sales tax, BEING as how we Republicans don't like the Federal Government!

Tax on clothing. Who are YOU? Paris Hilton? Put on some rags you picked up at the odd lot store, shut up and stop complaining.

Tax on rent. What do YOU care? It's not as if this will cost your landlord any money. If this causes him any problem, he can just raise your rent.

Tax on pharmaceuticals and healthcare. BECAUSE we Republicans really care about your healthcare.

Tax on toothpaste. A few extra cavities won't hurt your smile. You weren't planning on running for office on the GOP line ANYWAY, so who cares?

Tax on dry cleaning. We all know who runs dry cleaners, NOW DON'T WE? Dry cleaners are for business suits. You need to forget about that, get down on your hands and knees and clean the floor like Cinderella.

THE SALES TAX IS GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!

Tax, tax, tax and MORE tax!

Tax on bridal fashions. Were you planning on getting MARRIED? You can't AFFORD a family! So what do YOU care?

The sales tax. Just one itty bitty little taxipooh!

Do me a favor. Post your own lists below of all the taxes covered under the sales tax little bitty taxipooh that you will be so PRIVELEGED to pay. You'll never have to fill out a tax form again! Aren't you LUCKY?

Support the - TEA - party.
VOTE REPUBLICAN!!!

Isn't the sales tax great?

Your thoughts, recs and kicks appreciated.

2. Needs A Major Enforcement Bureaucracy To Administer, Too, Sir
Turns every merchant into a tax collector for the Federal government, giving him or her both onerous duties and documentation requirements, and opportunity to fiddle the totals....

7. Actually, no.
This actually has some potential if it's properly structured to exclude necessities (like a lot of states' sales taxes already do) and the enforcement structure is already in place in almost every state.

The state would collect the Federal Sales Tax along with its State Sales Tax. The States then get a kickback of a couple of percentage points of what is collected to pay for the enforcement end.

Best of all, it would finally tax the underground economy who never declare their incomes.

I've been an advocate of replacing the income tax with a VAT for years. However, the version the Republicans are pushing is horribly regressive and won't work.

Edited on Sun Sep-26-10 08:23 AM by BrklynLiberal
E.g. clothing, toilet paper, shampoo, food in a restaurant...even McDs and BK, gasoline AND a bicycle, all utility bills have taxes added on .

I already pay THREE levels of taxes on almost everything I buy...

'Fair tax' is the most regressive form of taxation, and people need to be made aware of just how UNfair this abomination would be.

9. On The Ed show a Republican was saying a VAT of 23%.
I've heard that figure a couple of time but don't know the details on everything it would apply to, or not. This guy was one of the Teabaggers running for congress.
Last year my effective Federal Tax rate was 7.6%. That was on about $32,000. Single, no kids or home mortgage deduction. I stashed 12% in my 403B.
Since I spend most of the rest of my money, there has to be a hell of a lot of exemptions for that 23% to even come close to sounding like a good deal.

12. It will only work if they tax.....
Illegal drugs

All services (particularly lawyers, accountants and illegal services since the rich buy more of them.)

Stocks, Bonds, derivatives, mutual funds, insurance etc...

Everything Corporations and businesses buy from labor to merging businesses, to (campaign contributions) politicians and influence.(After all, our Dancing Supremes have declared corporations people too.)

Everything Churches buy(I'm tired of supporting these dead beats with my tax dollars, while they cause riots and burn holy books.)

Everything nonprofits buy or is donated to them. Too many rich people hide behind nonprofits.

But when Tea-Baggers say everyone should pay they mean only We the People.

30. Everything nonprofits pay for here in NC is taxed...
... and the non-profit has to pay the sales/use tax. Because the non-profit organization I do administration work for is so small, a proper tax return is never required of us - just a simple declaration to the IRS that "we got less than $25,000 last year". If our nonprofit was buying and selling actual tangible goods, then sure the organization would be exempt from paying from sales tax for purchasing the materials/items for sale... but would have to collect the tax for the State and County when the items are sold.

There are some large non-profits and yes with rich people hiding behind them. However there are a good number of non profits out there that don't have rich people hiding behind them, and yes they do pay taxes - especially if they employ anyone!

13. Your premise is incorrect...
The so called FAIR tax exempts (rebates) those who earn under the poverty level and it gets rid of the FICA payroll tax so none of the stuff in your post is taxed for the poor. People earning up to twice the poverty level pay 11.5% and everyone above pays 23%.

15. I agree the premise is incorrect
The last proposal I read on the VAT also refunded the entire percentage of the VAT tax to anyone at the poverty line. IT assumed that everyone at the poverty line spent all their money, so once they filed for income, the entire VAT was automatically refunded.

I worry about the VAT tax because the money I have saved will be taxed now when I spend it. I already paid income tax on it. So that is a double tax on old people like me on their savings.

I heard once there was talk of some sort of age adjustment to account for that, but I don't understand how it would work.

not true in all cases. A refund is only good if one has the money to spend, and files income taxes.

31. The 'refund' is monthly...
They call it a 'prebate' since it is sent prior to the spending to address your concern.

Basically, they take the poverty level and multiply it by the 'FAIR' tax rate, divide that by 12 and send EVERYONE a check every month to cover the taxes on expenses up to the poverty limit. Everyone gets this monthly 'prebate'.

So instead of IRS paper work we have to do paper work for the rebate all the time instead of just once a year.

Brilliant!

The sales tax is really going to make everybody's life easier.

And stifle excessive economic activity!!!!!

20. 30 percent.
23 is the cooked number that includes the tax as part of the total. 30 percent. and that's just the introductory rate. and it doesn't include state and local sales taxes.

would create a black market even bigger than the failed drug war.

So if you eliminate the income tax in favor of the sales tax, you're basically giving the rich a free ride.

Which is what every rich person so desperately needs!

22. But NO sales tax on stocks, of course. How ludicrous to suggest
that purchase of a corporation or of shares of a corporation could possibly be akin to anything so mundane as buying toothpaste or clothing. If we were to tax the sale of stocks, the wheels of capitalism would come to a grinding halt, and we'd be interfering with the ability of the ultra-rich to get ultra-richer, and for big brokers to make insane amounts of money handling other people's money. It's much more sensible to run the government off of taxes on toothpaste.

No, it's completely separate -- when you are involved in a profit-seeking enterprise, all costs to make that profit are tax-deductible.

I would never suggest an 8% or so tax on stocks, of course..that would be ludicrous; but it is interesting that even a penny or so per $100 is resoundly blocked and the whole idea must not be spoken of.

People will vote for anything, if it is properly disguised and propaganda is driven into their heads wrapped in religious zeal, nationalism, and some appeal to race.
