161. Well, I didn't exactly decide. mr. tnlefty informed me in Feb. that all

of the yardwork, the work left to be done on the pool house, etc., had to be done by the end of May the first of June. I told him then that was no f'in way that I could get it done. I think he's regretting that now, as I have been working like crazy, am rather ill-tempered, and it's dawned on him that without help there was really no fucking way that I could get it done!

Nothing personal, but I really wanted to be in Murfreesboro, as I was elected as a delegate to the convention and I would've had voting rights relating to how the women in this state would be directed. Bummer!

I mentioned previously on DU that wild Mama Cat had deposited her six kittens in our backyard. All are doing fine, but we were concerned about our pool.

James, our next door neighbor, brought Mama Cat here. He has fed her.

Well, last night we talked to James. He and his wife wanted to take care of Mama Cat and her kittens. She had been bringing them out to play. They typically hide underneath our fake rock - it makes a great cave.

Anyway, we were going to catch Mama Cat and the kittens, but she moved everyone into the 'cave.' Dexter 'Sly' (Maat's family last name inserted here) stuck his head out and meowed. From the beginning, he's always meowed at my kid like. "Get me out of here. I'm not a dirt kitten!" We told James that Sly was the one we wanted to adopt. Before I knew it, James stuck his hand in and grabbed him, but not before Mama Cat made mincemeat out of James' hand. I popped Sly into the designed kitty carrier we had, momentarily confused.

Well, Mama Cat doesn't seem sad, but she is being careful with the other kitties. As it turns out, my vet said it was good we got Sly out of there. He seems to be healthy, but has a slight upper respiratory infection. The vet emphasized this was par for the course, and that a little administration of antibiotics was the ticket, along with a vitamin-mineral supplement. Socialization problem? Sly follows my kid around, and loves her to death. He is SO affectionate. He's happy and he plays constantly, when he's not commenting on things. He's a good boy, and goes to sleep well.

Here's my problem. Mom (me - Maat) goes through an intense period of worrying every time we get a new cat. We weren't able to test Dex for the dreaded Feline HIV/Leuk (or whatever). He's too young. We are isolating him from the rest of the crew, for obvious reasons. He has only shown himself to be a healthy, normal kitty. He's about 4-5 weeks, and eats fine on his own, and went straight to the kitty box to do his duty, which the vet says looks great (sample taken). But you know me, Ms. Worrywort. What if he has some dreaded disease (like feline HIV/Leuik), and we find that out next next week? What if I've ruined my ten year-old's life? I'm being silly, huh?

So, I'm listening to Malloy. I go through this with every cat, imagining horror scenes. Pretty silly, huh?
