There is now virtually no difference in how Meek and Crist are polling vs Rubio. http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE68E55P20100915

That's the good news. The bad news is that Teabagger Rubio is kicking both of their arses. As bad as that is, as far as DU is concerned, we should all unite behind Meek and, unfortunately, those who were upset that some of us were considering Crist are going to get to see why some of us were willing to do that when Rubio becomes a senator.

I hope Meek pulls off a Miracle here, but with Rubio at 40%, Crist at 26% and Meek at 21%, it is not looking good.

Is there anyway we can get O'Connell to go down to Florida and campaign for Rubio?

1. Makes no sense.
Most of Crists voters will not vote for Meak, they're moderates and independents. So Meak has no chance to win. If Meak voters would vote for Crist though he could win.

Crists potential = moderates, independents, liberals.
Meak potential = liberals only.

What you want to do is the same thing the republican party just did in Delaware with O'Donnell. They chose the unelectable candidate.

2. The polling crosstabs suggested that Meek and Crist were splitting the Democratic vote
Either way, neither of them will quit so Rubio is in.

4. Crist reminds me of John Anderson
Anderson was a "Republican-turned-Independent" who siphoned votes away from Jimmy Carter in the 1980 presidential election.

5. Crist is in it for his own ego
He figured out that if he could get enough disaffected Republicans plus independents plus some Democrats, he could win a three way race.

He knew he couldn't pull off the GOP nomination the way the electorate was behaving so he gambled on running as an indy.

He isn't a "spoiler' in the sense of Anderson or Nader just trying to peel off some votes.

His supposed "charisma" doesn't appear to be able to pull this one off (winning a close three way race).

6. Well, he's not a bad guy. I disagree with him on a majority of issues, but he is prertty nice.

I've met him and his father on a number of occasions.

It would be best for all involved if he pulled out of the race. He is losing by 15+ points now, and a shellacking like that wont do anyone any good. if he pulls out, its a close race between Rubio and Meek.
