The "drug warriors" are at it again...
Every couple of years the "drug warriors" spread panicky screeds to news agencies about how kids are in an epidemic of misusing cought syrup, to get high.

Usually in election years.

They're at it again.

The "drug warrior" dipshits just don't get it.
If someone wants to get high, they will try to find a way to do so, even with the most commonplace stuff.

1. DXM is a pretty benign drug
fwiw. Believe it or not, it IS a prescription drug in some countries, though.

Not here, fortunately.

2. At least the FDA appears to be deciding with reality in mind.
You're right, when there's a will there's a way. Glue, paint thinner, cough syrup, or the many other readily available methods, people, not only kids, will get what they want.

6. You need a permission slip from Big Pharm's marketing department.
There are only two legal ways to get high in this country:

1. Get a permission slip from one of Big Pharm's marketing agents, take that slip to Big Pharm's sales department, and get that order filled.

or

2. Go to any store, restaurant, bar, club, or home that has alcohol, buy it and consume it.

Anything else, and the right people don't get their cut. It's a health and social issue, and should be dealt with as such. We've filled prisons with people who don't need to be there, spending billions we don't have, while we keep putting back on the street serious criminals who shouldn't be getting parole at all. It's insane.

8. Sadly, too many MDs are basically marketing reps for Big Pharm
My friend/neighbor went into the hospital for "elective" surgery. Her doc said, well, you'll need this operation eventually - why not get it while you're in good health? Friend catches hospital based, drug resistant staph infection. Doctor has her on two very expensive antibiotics for two months. Friend is too weak to get out of bed. Not improving. Lab test done by doc reveals she still has infection. Doc's prognosis is for friend to continue on same course of very expensive antibiotic treatment.

Friend summons up enough strength to see infectious disease specialist. He blows up on reviewing her records. Tells her the two prescriptions she was on are not effective against her strain of infection, PLUS the lab test she took is useless, because once someone is infected with this staph, such tests will test positive for years, even after they are cured.

He tells her the only way to measure her condition is through the doctor analyzing her symptoms.

Oh. My. God. Does he have the audacity to say that doctors have to diagnose a patient themselves!?! And not rely on the Drug Reps? Why, that would take time! ! ! The doctors would actually have to sit down with their patient and ask them lots of questions about how they were feeling? Well, that won't work. Doesn't everyone realize that if the docs stop prescribing the really expensive drugs, that the drug companies will stop taking the doctors and families out for really expensive dinners every month at the most expensive restaurants around? Or sending the doctors and their families to "professional seminars" in places like Hawaii?

9. That's the fact.
I know a woman whose doctor switched her anti depressant every year for six consecutive years, always to the new product which cost the most.

Sales people push the drugs and many doctors prescribe the new drugs being pushed.

7. Call them "drug worriers". It's a better fit.
Steroided-up, gun-toting, jack-booted church ladies -- making the world safe (and profitable) for alcohol and tobacco.

10. The worst was the Jenkem scare. OMG, how stupid are people that they'd believe
kids would inhale sewer gases to get high?
