Anti-Immigrant Gunman Denied Bond - 24 Year Old Freeper wanted to be released to his parents custody
http://www.wusa9.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=58793&provider=gnews

WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- Tyler Froatz Jr., 24, has been ordered to jail without bond pending his trial on assault and gun charges.

Froatz was arrested May 1st at Meridian Hill Park after he allegedly assaulted one pro-immigration demonstrator. At the time, police found 2 knives on him, along with a hammer, flare gun, and pepper spray. Police later discovered a loaded rifle inside his Jeep.

The next day, after obtaining a search warrant for his Northwest apartment, 15 more guns, a Molotov cocktail, a hand grenade and more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition were seized.

At Thursday's detention hearing, Froatz's attorney pleaded for his release to his parents custody. Prosecutors strenuously objected.

3. i like how THEY twisted it by calling him a gunman
Edited on Fri May-18-07 06:36 AM by ProdigalJunkMail
even though no gun was used in the assault. Why not just call him a bomber since there was a molotov cocktail and hand grenade in his home...

7. all about selling the fear
molotov cocktail probably doesn't jump out at the potential newspaper buyer in the same way. Sensationalism, I would bet, is the reason.

Why not "wouldbe terrorist" - as the guy was clearly out to terrorize folks - would think that would sell papers...

9. Spaek for yourself...
The words "Molitov" and "Grenade" catch my eye a helluva lot quicker than "firearm" or "rounds"

11. firearm or rounds aren't the sensationalism its the term "gunman"
in the wake of the V-tech tragedy. Just guessing. Now if they said "grenade tosser"... ;-) My commentary has less to do with the terms used - and more a sad commentary on the selling of things via fear.

14. How about "homicide bomber"
;)

At least they didn't say "armed gunmen". I swear everytime I hear that I have a disease which forces me to utter in reply "As opposed to UNARMED gunmen?".

and typing away down in his mom's basement isn't that far off.

8. "The Community has Reason to FEAR" Froatz
This is the 2nd arrest of a Free Republic poster. I certainly hope that the authorities are going to turn their attention to that board and start using the tools they have put in place to catch people who are committing terrorist tactics.
