Hans Zeiger thinks we should not buy Girl Scout cookies until they clean

up their act. - no, really.

Republican candidate: Girl Scouts have become pro-abortion, pro-atheist, pro-gay feminists

How I missed this one, I’ll never know, but my pal DSG e-mailed me a link to an article about how evil and liberal the Girl Scouts have become. Who knew they were such Marxist Commie French Kenyans? If only they’d been like that when I was a member.

Hans Zeiger, a Republican candidate for Washington state’s House of Representatives:

One might wonder why the Girl Scouts have been spared the painful attacks that have been launched upon the Boy Scouts by the Left in recent years. The reasons are simple: the Girl Scouts allow homosexuals and atheists to join their ranks, and they have become a pro-abortion, feminist training corps. … If the Girl Scouts of America can’t get back to teaching real character, perhaps it will be time to look for our cookies elsewhere.”
Hey, Zeiger, I’ll thank you leave their cookies out of this. As for the rest of your statement, if I were the Girl Scouts, I’d be thanking you for the compliments.

Maybe you could take a few character lessons from some apparently very inclusive, very wise little girls.

"painful attacks that have been launched upon the Boy Scouts"

damn right they were painful. we don't like our boys being abused by Scout adult leaders.

7. You can make a donation and cookies will be sent to charities...
...like homeless shelters, food pantries, soldiers...it's called (at least when I was a Cookie Mom) Gift of Caring. A lot of people who couldn't eat cookies would support us through GoC.

3. Unfortunately, some of our own GLBT community
confused the Boy Scout stance against homosexuality with the very different policies and outlook of the Girl Scouts. I remember a painful argument here a few years back where a few of our own were demanding that the Girl Scouts be likewise boycotted in terms of cookie sales. They seemed totally unwilling to be corrected on their incorrect impressions. That REALLY saddened me.

4. ...why the Girl Scouts have been spared the painful attacks...?
Because they haven't embraced a bigoted agenda,

and EVERYONE likes the cookies.

8. The Girl Scouts have always been inclusive
at the insistence of Julia Ward Howe, the founder of the Girl Scout movement in the US. She insisted that all girls be allowed to join, even those with disabilities (she herself was deaf--a fact I either never knew or forgot I knew). The Girl Scouts also led the way with integration, beginning with integrating Girl Scout camps & troops in the 1950s (they were recognized by MLK for their efforts).

The Girl Scouts of the United States of America (GSUSA) is a youth organization for girls in the United States and American girls living abroad. It describes itself as "the world's preeminent organization dedicated solely to girls".<2> (my edit: & run solely by women)

from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Girl_Scouts_of_the_USA

Another link with interesting info (a quick read, if you don't have time to read wiki): http://www.main.org/gsusa/histry.htm

I found this interesting from this link: The first American Girl Scout handbook was written by Walter John Hoxie, a naturalist. This book reflected many stereotypes of the time, making many references to the arts of "housewivery." However, there was a marked emphasis on ecology and physical fitness which attended to the promise of a new American girl in the years to come. In 1916, Juliette Low adapted a newer version of the Girl Scout Handbook. This book included an aviation badge, a new height for the all girl organization.

Aviation Badge in 1916! Whoda thunk that girls could be pilots???

10. Funny how an organization that empowers girls could possibly
espouse notions of freedom and equality...

I'll keep buying the cookies AND bringing my daughter to meetings as long as she still enjoys it thanks.
