I love the smell of napalm in the morning...

The enemy is scattered and in disarray this morning.

They are snapping and sniping at each other. It is a rare occasion to see the Republicans so confused. What happened?

First of all, they were counting their chickens before they hatched, always a dangerous exercise.
They were looking to take over the US Senate from the Democrats. They believe the O'Donnell victory blew a hole in those chances. They thought they were guaranteed a victory with Mike Castle. They thought the Tea Party were little pieces of clay they could hold in their hands and shape to their own vision. They were mistaken.

Democrats should beware. Ms O'Donnell has just enough populist support to win that Senate seat. I would guess that she will win it.

On top of all this confusion and disarray, the Democrats are ready to draw a line in the sand about the extension of the millionire tax cuts. The Republicans are so busy cutting each other up that the Democrats may actually win this big battle. Welcome to Campaign 2010!

1. O'Donnell won't win.
DE Republicans are already abandoning her in droves.

5. They say 44% of Castle supporters plan to vote for Coons
That's reportedly based on leaks of exit poll data that won't be released officially until later today or tomorrow.

9. I would like to believe that...
but it simply doesn't jive with the Republican psychology. Very few ever vote for Democrats. They would rather vote for an old yeller cat. :-)

I believe the Repubs will unite behind O'Donnell before the election and she is now the star of the Tea Party movement. The Democrat will have a difficult time winning this race, in my opinion.

10. only 31% of people of Delaware voters believe she is qualified for office. ON EDIT LINK

Sorry no link, from another thread in DU which had a link to the poll. Too lazy to look for it.

Apparently the Dem is starting out with a 20 point lead.

13. That is the conventional wisdom...
I would agree.

But the CW also said Castle would beat her in the primary.

20. Closed primary. teabaggers out in full force. How will sane independents and mod Republicans
vote in the general? It is a moderate state, pretty blue. I suppose if independents, moderate republicans and Democrats sit home of their fat asses and don't vote, she will win.

14. Deleware is overwhelmingly a Democratic state
The Democrats voting for Mike Castle is what won him races. Those Dems will never vote for TouchMeNot. While believe lots of DE repubs will cross to vote for the Dem, even if none do, the Dem wins.

15. Her nuttiness--and nastiness toward Castle--has given them ample reason...
...to spurn her in the general, especially if Castle continues to refuse to endorse her.

Ordinarily, you'd expect to see GOP voters shift back to the party between yesterday's exit polls and November, but in this case I doubt that will happen in significant numbers. That old yeller cat stinks too damn much! :)

from victory...

Hence our new logo:

Does anyone really think this is going to motivate the base? This is the big announcement today? The snark for that new logo that will come quickly from the RETHUGS absolutely writes itself.

Sorry, but I am very disappointed in Kaine. Can we please bring Dean back (and quckly?)

But DU likes to fixate on things like that.

12. One hell of a lot of hype for a revamped website....
And, yeah, I'm guessing DUers are not the only ones who will fixate on such silliness, especially right now.

19. I think there was a "web announcement?" Don't remember a lot of hype about it
Republicans had a website revamp not too long ago too. About how black people owe the republican party for all the advances made in this country, or something along those lines.

But you're right, won't stop the Republicans from being assholes. On the other hand if it wasn't this it would be something else. Like Kenyan Anti-Colonialism, LOL

7. I was with you, up to the point of you predicting an O'Donnell victory.

The repubs did count their chickens before they hatched. Almost always a deadly mistake. And they did have the impression that the Tea Party could somehow be controlled by them. As for O'Donnell, I won't say one way or the other, but is is trailing far behind the democrat. But hey, anything can happen.

16. Have you been to Delaware or know our voting population. She can't win
Less than 10% of the registered voters in the state of Delaware voted in that election yesterday. Castle lost for 2 reasons, first he didn't take the O'Donnell race seriously because she's a perpetual candidate that carries a crap load of baggage. But the main reason is that Delaware is a closed primary which means only registered republicans could actually vote in this race. Delaware has been solidly blue everywhere except when it comes to Mike Castle, he's a moderate that appeals to independent and moderate democrats who tend to vote for him in the general election but couldn't in the primaries (since these aren't registered democrats).

Chris Coons has been working hard these past months to gain support because he always expected to be running against Mike Castle, a daunting challenge to beat but still feasible. So he's been working this entire summer getting his face out there and recognized throughout the state, campaigning like this was for the general election against a formidable challenger. That hard work was pulling him closer to Castle in the ratings but now it's not Castle who is running against him. Already new polls have him close to 60%.

Coons also benefits from being a very successful and much liked County Commissioner in New Castle County, our most populous of the 3 counties here in Delaware. He'll easily pull 70% of the vote in this county, which outnumbers voters over 2-1 than the other 2 counties combined. Even in Kent County (the middle one) he'll run about 55-45 lead. More than likely he'll lose Sussex county, which is our smallest county. Coons will probably hit a few events in liberal havens like Rehobeth to strum up support but spend the bulk of his campaign north of the canal. Even if only half the people in New Castle County turn out to vote (in comparison to 2008) he'll still win by 55% of the vote.

That is good information. How did Bill Roth ever get elected Senator from that state?

18. Delaware is ok with Moderates, that's how Castle stayed in office for so long
But from what I was told (Roth was out before my time), Carper just outcampaigned Roth that year. He slacked off and figured he could win based on name recogniztion. Carper tired endlessly (and had name recognizition as former governor and house representative) plus Roth's age had a big factor in all of it too.

It's not that republicans can't win statewide - they just need to be moderate.
