Is this the new 'major' Democratic announcement?
Edited on Wed Sep-15-10 09:58 AM by kirby
Basically, a website redesign and a change of the party logo from the donkey to the letter D?

http://www.democrats.org/news/blog/575

Or is there something new still? Democrats.org went from stay tuned for a major announcement to a new web layout.

Tim Kaine is still scheduled to speak at NOON at George Washington University. Lets HOPE there is more to the announcement.
It was billed as something that would 'excite the party' and be about the 'future of the party'.

It is a target, and the letter D? Keep the donkey, for goodness sakes. Do something new with that. The redesigned is ugly, imo.

And, this is the big announcement? Less than two months before the GE? Oh god.

The Party is not about one man (or one woman), it is about everyone. The President was never supposed to become such a powerful and overwhelming office, that's what the checks and balances were for.

Interesting for our national party to so embrace the presidency with their appeal. Bold gambit, even though nationalizing state and local elections can be risky. I wonder if we've seen this level of co-opting before. It's been a staple of republicans to mesh their party appeal with their president's.

A few brands are doing this letter gimmick.

Still, this style but no substance change is incredibly lame, yet somehow befitting for this current administration.

The reports are that it's about 'the direction of the party'.

I really don't think folks have to stretch their criticisms much to respond to the mediocrity of the logo change and the pablum contained in the messaging the Chairman provided as background.

89. here's a bit more on it from HuffPo
The Democratic National Committee has revamped both its logo and website in hopes of taking on a sleeker, less bureaucratic perception among voters.

The re-design went live on Wednesday morning with an accompanying tag line: "Democrats: Change That Matters." In place of the former logo -- DNC in block letters filled with an American flag -- the committee opted for a capital D engulfed by a blue-band circle.

Chairman Tim Kaine is expected to offer more details about the new site and messaging strategy during a speech at George Washington University later in the day. But the purpose of the relaunch, as someone familiar with the plans noted, is to provide the organization with a new identity that de-emphasized the image of a national committee (which, itself, conjures up visions of old men sitting around a conference room table).

The new look, indeed, seems torn out of the pages of the Obama for America campaign playbook, straight down to the circular logo and the evocation of "change."

93. Well, somebody overplayed the significance of this
I happen to like the idea of refreshing one's marketing, but people don't get excited over political logos like they do over the new I-Phone, so either we at DU made this into a bigger deal than it was supposed to be, or Tim has a distorted view of what people find exciting.

. . . a substantive policy announcement (change or enhancement) would be more significant to voters than window dressing or restating our platform.

69. Except that this blog entry is from yesterday.
How lame that everybody just runs with this as the 'big announcement'.

How low can we go here?

The website was down yesterday. It had been replaced with a page saying a 'major announcement' to be revealed soon. This morning the site was back up (around 10am) with a new look and that is the latest blog entry announcing the new website and new logo.

As I mentioned in the original post, Tim Kaine speaks at NOON at George Washington Univ, lets hope there is more to this announcement.

And I do not think everybody is running with this is the big announcement. Everyone is HOPING that there is MORE!

And someone else mentioned that Tim Kaine announced this on the Today show this morning.

Geez, either we took his announcement too seriously here on DU, or his idea of 'big' is distorted.

Big announcement? no, but it's nice to have new ideas for marketing as outside of DU, politics is really a massive marketing game that the Republicans seem to be much better at than Dems...

98. I hope this isn't what we're supposed to get excited about
It's just another damn marketing move. The Bush family loves PR firms-they've given them a shiteload of money to sell us a war both times. And, here's another marketing move. Well, I'm holding out for something a little more exciting when it comes to policy change, not some gimmick.

It would be nice if they started treating us like people who actually care about policy, than some damn consumer that has to be persuaded to buy something.

Before I saw this AWESOME new logo I was disgusted with the Dems for fucking us over on HCR, Gay rights, not prosecuting war criminals from past administrations, not defending labor or the embattled middle class, still fucking tapping our phones, still jailing non-combatants without due process, keeping Gates, bailing out bankers whose greed crashed the economy, calling me a "retard", treating Howard Dean like a piece of shit, AFGHANISTAN, fucking over teachers, Geithner, and for cynically using Republican obstructionism as a flimsy excuse to avoid passing legislation that might anger their corporate pay masters.

All of that is behind me now. This shiny new logo has truly inspired me and I will now be the first one at the polls to vote straight ticket democrat to reward them for such courageous and inspiring change.

This is what the big deal is?

Umm, note to Democratic party, you would be better served by getting your ass in gear, passing legislation that will help people out (hint, a big, huge jobs creation program) before the end of October than by a logo change.
