9/11, just too fucking surreal
Look where we are. Look at the radical changes we've adopted as a matter of course. Do you ever struggle with how we ended up here, or does it all make sense as the logical result of a singular event? The endless war on terror, the erosion destruction of our civil liberties, the permanent police/security complex, the massive fraud and grift, the near total lack of justice... I don't know about you, but for me living in a "post 9/11 world" feels like being trapped in an episode of Fringe or Quantum Leap. We've had nine years to get used to the new normal, and I'm still struggling to make sense of it all. How about you?

1. OK, so we invaded one or two countries on lies, caused the death of a million human beings....

and added 3 trillion to the national debt.

I mean, it's not like someone should go to jail or anything radical like that.

2. On this day..we give thanks that the second 911 was not allowed to happen
I'm talking about the 6 rogue nuclear missiles that were loaded on a B-52 and flown to Barksdale AFB... enroute to the ME.

One of those missiles was destined to be launched in a stealth night atack against an American City... in order to cement support for a Nuke attack on Iran. It was 911 Act II.

Please don't forget.. this is not conspiracy or tin foil.. this happened.

Navy veteran questions why six nuclear missiles were flown on combat aircraft to staging area for Middle East

A retired lieutenant commander in the Navy Reserve who served with the Navy's Supervisor of Salvage questioned in a little-noticed editorial Sunday why six active nuclear armed cruise missiles were being transferred to an active bomber base that "just happens to be the staging area for Middle Eastern operations."

Six nuclear W80 nuclear-armed cruise missiles were flown from Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota to Barksdale AFB in Louisiana where they sat for ten hours undetected.

"Press reports initially cited the Air Force mistake of flying nuclear weapons over the United States in violation of Air Force standing orders and international treaties, while completely missing the more important major issues, such as how six nuclear cruise missiles got loose to begin with," writes Stormer.

"Let me be very clear here: We are not talking about paintball cartridges or pellet gun ammo. We are talking nuclear weapons."

3. The missiles were *supposed* to be flown there.
The screw up was that the physics packages were supposed to be removed prior to the flight.

4. I think about it every time I encounter TSA at the airport.
Edited on Sat Sep-11-10 06:45 PM by LibDemAlways
Last month while leaving from LAX my purse, which contained only a hairbrush and wallet, was grabbed by a snotty little self-important TSA idiot and taken off to a "secure" area where she proceeded to dump the entire contents of the wallet - all of the change, credit/debit cards, insurance cards, etc. all over one of those plastic bins - and then walked away, leaving me to clean up the mess. She knew damn well there wasn't anything suspicious there. She did it because she could.

Our government has empowered the otherwise powerless to lord over us and treat us like shit -not criminals, because they know we haven't done anything wrong - just plain shit.

I also think about the criminal Bush administration and all they got away with. Why the hell was 911 never properly investigated? Because the truth is too awful. Bush, Cheney, Rummy, et. al wanted a "New Pearl Harbor" to carry out empire building and make an oil grab. They got it in spades. And the whitewashing and cover up continue under a Democratic administration. It's shameful.

7. Yes it is Shameful
The World court really needs to do a 911 Investigation.

18. Do you remember when Bush & gang opted out of the World Court prior to their wars?
They knew ahead of time they would be committing war crimes. When they stated the US would not be subjected to the World Court I knew what going to happen.

10. It's a good thing that I don't need to fly for any reason.
I would definitely end up in leg irons. It's all BS that was set up to control people who are scared.

11. I second that
I don't care how far I have to go. I will drive. I'll go where I want when I want and bring what I want and say what I want in my own car. Piss on the TSA and their rules. Piss on the airlines and their shitty conditions and their profits, too - that's a bonus piss :)

16. I rarely fly and when I do, I dread it. The TSA
morons wouldn't be able to spot a terrorist if one bit them in the ass. But, they are hired because they will work for cheap and because they are major, major assholes who thoroughly enjoy being able to harrass the public for fun. I've seen a 90 year old women with dementia being hoisted out of her wheelchair to be "wanded." I've observed a little kid having his teddy bear yanked away to be swabbed with chemicals. I've had my bra felt up for no reason whatever. It's huge, huge bullshit - and never fails to amaze me how the public just goes along with it as though it's serving some sort of useful function. It isn't.

all self-important about how flights were insecure with not enough precautions.

21. No offense intended, but your co-workers are delusional if
they think a bunch of TSA flunkies are capable of protecting them. The US doesn't know the first thing about "smart" security, nor do they want to know. It's easier to scare the sheep into complying with a bunch of nonsense that apparently soothes the most gullible ones. It's all total BS.

17. My daughter had to beg me to restrain myself. The caliber of
employee at the TSA "security" checkpoint is a complete joke. I've taught third graders who are more intelligent. Think pond scum with a badge and you have the idea.

You are very fortunate not to have to encounter the lowlife. I only fly once in a great while, and the entire experience is a nightmare.

6. you think this is bad -- wonder what Guiliani is going to do next year
We kept our TV off the stations running non-stop re-runs of the buildings going down. It made me think of watching someone in emotional distress cutting themselves, or ripping off a dirty scab.

Does *this* -honor- the dead?

I've had this awful feeling that Rudi is going to set up some 10 year anniversary show, complete with Rockettes dressed as the grim reapers - or Bin Laden. They dance across the cobblestones while Guiliani does his James Cagney *I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy* dance of death in front of them.

9. Same as this year--milk 9/11 for all it's worth
Your 'awful feeling' is spot on. I picture him asking, "Can I handle 9/11 with sensitivity, dignity and respect?" And the answer is, "Why start now?"

Edited on Sun Sep-12-10 01:35 AM by lunatica
The thing that is most disgusting is how fast this country has degenerated. I always felt the idiots in this country would easily be led into fascism, just like the German people were, with lies and more lies. But the speed with which it happened once the door was opened (9/11) leaves my head reeling.

14. Next year, the Tenth Anniversary

will fall on a Sunday. Imagine the possibilities that a few (possibly many) Religious Right demagogues will have to exploit this. I really don't want to think about that.

15. perfectly normal and expected, still horrible though.
my first response to 9/11 was lack of surprise. it just seemed that the ball that had been rolling for quite some time just hit an expected major milestone where even greater horrors will manifest at a faster rate. in fact, as the even happened, i went back to sleep knowing that this event was expected from my worst expectations and that i was to dream of details of the horrors to come. had quite a bit of nightmares from 9am to 6pm that day, and many of those nightmares came to pass. no, not surprised, but not pleased living through a timeline sliding through a hell-scape. more shall come, but alas knowing changes nothing, so enjoy the slow dive, nu?

i'm a barrel of fun at parties, btw! you just quickly learn to not speak of the impending doom as much, kind of a downer. O8)
