PA spends a million dollars of education money on security turnstiles for administrators
What would you buy for a million dollars worth of school money? Some modernized classrooms, you say? Noontime aides and community liaisons to replace the ones the District laid off at the beginning of the summer, perhaps?

How about a handful of turnstiles at District headquarters?

Last week, the School Reform Commission ratified Resolution A-28, a contract amendment with Elliott-Lewis Corporation for $1,006,959.43 for installation of security turnstiles. You can see those million dollar beauties...

It’s hard to imagine not only the million-dollar public cost of the turnstiles but why they’re even needed when security guards at both entrances check visitors...

Interesting to note that at the same time the School District of Philadelphia is endangering students and teachers by dismissing the School Safety Advocate and in-classroom aides they are ensuring the safety of Ackerman and the SRC. That will keep me sleeping soundly at night.

1. There are no such provisions for classroom teachers. My sister taught grade school in PA
for years, and had to spend her own money for materials to decorate the rooms and to provide little "extras" for the students, like art materials.

She teaches in Texas now, and still has to do the same thing.
I suppose the administrators have national meetings to determine such policies, and to reenforce how important they are and how vital to real education.

Hey, what's a crummy million bucks, more or less, anyway?
I rec'd this, but I see several evidently unrec'd it before I got here. Must be school administrators.
