Craigslist shuts down adult services section
HARTFORD, Conn. | Craigslist has apparently closed the adult services section of its website, two weeks after 17 state attorneys general demanded it shut down the section.

The section had been replaced today by a “censored” logo.

Craigslist did not immediately return an e-mail seeking comment.

Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, one of the AGs who pressed for the change, said in a written statement that he welcomed the change and was trying to verify Craigslist’s official policy going forward.

There used to be no "Adult Services" or "Erotic Services" section. They put it in because it was overwhelming the real personals ads.

30. Bullshit
This came about after there were several incidents where women were beaten or killed by "customers". Richard Blumenthal and Martha Coakley are two of the most progressive attorneys general in the country, and they both ran out of patience with Craigslist a long time ago.

47. I Am Ambivalent About Prostitution
That sex is turned into a commodity but that's another discussion.

A lot of these women will be pushed backed onto the street. It's much more dangerous. At least, the net allows for some screening, and there is an electronic trail.

Those who sell sex will just find another venue.

48. Solicitation and pandering

In most states solicitation of prostitution is illegal, as is advertising it (generally called pandering, which is casually called pimping).

The communications themselves are unlawful, so it's not a question about whether the underlying prostitution is unlawful.

25. Yes, those "I really truly promise I am 18 so let me in!" access controls...
on porn sites are highly effective. A neighbor's 8-year-old son had a grand ol' time at big boobs sites until he was busted (ark, ark). At some point he moved onto anal, and the neighbor finally realized (duh) that it wasn't such a great idea for Little Johnny to have his own laptop with no adult supervision.

45. Why not just legalize it, regulate it, and tax it
By legalizing and regulating prostitution, it would go a long way towards fixing a lot of the problems associated with it. But since it's illegal and unregulated, it leaves it open for organized crime to step in and run it.
