3. I watched Marley & Me while filling out my calendar with all my kids activities now that
school and fall sports have started again.

I cried at the end of the movie - again.

Beck? whatever...

5. I think too few people realize the danger here
Too many think the debate in the nation's marketplace of ideas has been won. They think the movement has been successfully marginalized by comedians and bloggers.

This movement is not going away. It's not going to be ridiculed or ignored or blogged away.

All it will take is an economic collapse to turn it into a steamroller. And one is looming.

6. I do agree
We have to get our collective asses in gear and show up at the polls, and march against these fools!

21. And that's how we do it--we don't try to outshout them, because it's never gonna happen.
All we can do is work our asses off and show up to vote for the right people.

10. I think it may even be an indication that the progressive century is dead
and that a new century, wholly owned by rightwing corporate interests, is on the rise.

I hope I'm wrong...:evilfrown:

28. Precisely
Edited on Sat Aug-28-10 07:11 PM by Papa Boule
Monied interests have been given more power to shape and control the narrative. That will make this next time different from the Great Depression, which resulted in a shift to progressivism.

11. Sigh - my fear exactly
This rally will be a footnote, much like the Beer Hall Putsch

Arm yourselves, fellow progressives - we are who they will come for first

25. Let them come, they shouldn't teach 'us' war too.
I am sick to see lessons previously learned with such great cost so easily forgotten. I have provocative leftist bumper stickers on my truck, one of them says "Veterans for Obama". Only one time has anyone given me shit. I will educate a dumb redneck.

18. good
Because the more right wing fringe candidates they put up against Democrats, the more the Democrats will win those elections. Most of America won't be attracted to tea party candidates.

20. It's the anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant stuff that's really starting to worry me.
They've found their scapegoats. The hate machine is primed and ready, and if the economy doesn't improve soon, it will come to life.

8. And Glenn Beck actually said he hated that song on his radio show
Edited on Sat Aug-28-10 01:57 PM by miscsoc
There's a clip on mediamatters. He knows what the words mean.

I suppose he's using it for the same reason he's using MLK's memory - out of sheer sadism. He wants to show that he doesn't have to bother about truth. It's a power trip thing. He gets a kick out of twisting anything the left does says creates or achieves into fodder for his own vile right wing agenda. He hates Springsteen, he hates King.

I expect a forthcoming comment and maybe more from Springsteen.

22. Clear the decks
for the next hate-fest. Post-rally will be not-so-much covered as the pre-rally. So are we back to the no-mosque-at-Ground-Zero? That's wearing out, too.

Everyone, and I mean everyone should be demanding the dissolution of the commission to dismantle Social Security. Talk about a bi-partisan issue, geesh!

24. I'm just SO glad....
There will only be about another week's worth of the thousands of hours of free publicity this douchenozzle got by being purposefully hateful. This week will be spent on "Last Saturday was awesome/last Saturday was horrific" and then we'll be ready for the next manufactured distraction. Sure as hell can't talk about Social Security or anything, that would just be insensitive. Or something.

Okay, a little bit of :sarcasm: there.

When the cameras panned the crowd I saw at least a dozen people yawning out of boredom. I think I'll go back and get screenshots of them. It was hilarious.

I forgot that stupid bullshit was even happening until I got home and turned on the computer. I'm sure a bunch of my relatives watched it. But they're idiots who think he's a real historian (though my degrees tell ME I'm the real historian).
I don't give a rats' ass about Beck or his idiot brigade.
