Pastor says armed militia to protect church during Quran-burning event
Armed militia at a book-burning for anti-muslim jesus freaks. Wow, what could possibly go wrong?
:eyes:

(CNN) -- An armed Christian organization, Right Wing Extreme, will protect a church that is planning to host an "International Burn a Quran Day" on September 11, the church's pastor said Tuesday.

The Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Florida, says it is hosting the event to remember 9/11 victims and to take a stand against Islam. With promotions on its website and Facebook page, the nondenominational church invites Christians to burn the Muslim holy book.

Dove's Facebook page, set up for the September event, has nearly 6,000 fans. The initiative has also drawn critics.

Dove World Outreach Center Pastor Terry Jones has accepted the support of Right Wing Extreme, which he said offered to come to the church with between 500 and 2,000 men on September 11. He described the organization as an armed civilian militia group.

1. look for violence...
I'm not wishing for it. I'm not advocating it. However, you burn the Quran and you WILL get some very angry Muslims. You burn the "Holy Bible" and you WILL get some very angry Christians.

15. Look at the links
to other stories at the bottom of the page. There are more than angry Muslims. There are some angry Christians and others who will lead a protest on the day before this horrendous "event" is planned.

39. The goal of burning the book (any book) is to incite violence.
They want a fight.

I'd suggest that mocking them in every outlet available would be far more effective ...

Nazi = book burning ...

And, do not confront them in public settings (other than simple signs) ... again they WANT a fight.

So better to MOCK them ... TEASE them in alternative forums AFTER this silly event. When this stunt had zero effect ... point that out.

Do not engage these nut head on .. that is what they want ... flank them. Marginalize them as crazy fringe.

And ... as always with these nuts ... watch your back.

Of course if they really believed in their God, they would not be doing this.

Why do so many Christians not believe in Jesus Christ?

16. Many make up things as they go along as it suits their needs. IMO many so called
christian groups are hate groups masquerading under the veil of being christians. I'm not a religious person, so I might be biased, but I don't think so. I remember watching crosses burning in the 60's, for example, and I could only think WTF, and I still say the same, WTF. The hatred belched out by some of these groups in the name of god and jesus is amazing. I decided a very long time ago religion was just another form of politics, power and control, and greed. I still think the same.

I'd say it would be a hoot to toss a lit firecracker into the midst of these no doubt trigger-happy nincompoops. But the likelihood of their hitting an innocent bystander makes that prohibitively foolhardy.

So they were denied a burn permit and now they will knowingly violate the law while threatening to shoot people.

So that's what Jesus' message was all about... Might makes right.

That's very interesting. You know, I've heard that in some countries they actually pull christians out of their vehicles and shoot them right there on the side of the road - just for being christians. Do you think that invites trouble?

freedom of speech is wonderful. It's the way in which they're executing this particular exercise that I think is stupid.

And by the way, I also have freedom of speech and am free to say I think they're being stupid.

44. Freedom of speech can be problematic yes...
When that freedom of speech is used to propagate hatred and intentionally provoke, mock, and incite others it is problematic. Should it be curtailed? No. Should it be criticized? Yes. Besides, the group applied for a permit to burn and that permit was denied by the local authorities. The group will be in violation of local ordinances by continuing with their event. As I said before, they can piss on the Qur'an if they choose, which would still be stupid and hateful, but within the law.

Criticizing stupid behavior is not against the freedom of speech it is simply criticizing stupid behavior. I support the right of these people to act like ignorant bigots. I disagree with them and think they are an embarrassment. The main issue is that the county does not support their planned event, yet they are planning to do it anyway with armed people to protect it.

33. ChristoTheater. Nothing but a disingenuous, bad joke.
I doubt that any angry Muslim will appear at the "burning". However, if Korans are actually destroyed in the act of politically motivated , calculated desecration, there could be some bad consequences for the Pastor.

40. Except that the act of publicly desecrating the Koran is an
ultimate insult to most Muslims just as the same act done to a Bible would enrage Christians.
The preacher knows that his congregation approves of the act while Muslims are not able to stop him.

My point about downloading a file copy of the Koran and then public ally deleting the copy was to show that basically, burning a book is spiritually equal to deleting a digital copy of the same document therefore rendering the old practice of "book burning" is now totally meaningless. Whatever value the texts of the Korans and Bible may have, does not depend on the type of physical presentation, i.e. book or e-file.

To me, the preacher's attempts to get the support of his unenlightened followers by a totally obsolete act would be funny if it weren't for the fact that his motives are very evil.
