I heard a report on local noozradio from some CNBC guy. Target's all shaky-kneed because of their political largess in the cause of some homophobic motherfucker. And Teh Gays are maybe not happy and maybe not gunna shop at Target.

Lemme tell ya sumpin, Mr. Target. I'm not shopping at your store, either. And I ain't gay.

3. Check out Tom Emmer - the candidate who benefited
Gay rights is not the only reason we should be boycotting Target because of this donation.

5. The whole thing is coming from my glorious home state of Minnesota,
Edited on Mon Aug-23-10 09:24 PM by The Velveteen Ocelot
where Target contributed a buttload of money to a group that supports the Republican candidate for Governor, Tom Emmer. Emmer is a hardcore teabagger wingnut. He is an unrepenant homophobe; he's also on record as saying he thinks the wages of restaurant workers should be reduced and their tips included as part of the legal minimum wage. His anti-gay position is only one of many reasons why he is horrible. If, God help us, he gets elected we'll wish we had Tim Pawlenty back. He's that bad. Fortunately he's well behind in the polls.

So anyhow, Target contributed a pile of money to a group called MN Forward, which is "pro-business," and therefore supports Emmer and is making TV ads for him. Under MN law these contributions have to be disclosed (although the Republicans are fighting that law in court), and the crap hit the fan. Target has long promoted itself as "gay-friendly" for its benefits and hiring practices, but their financial support for wacko gay-hater Emmer was a bit of a setback...

9. Both Target & Best Buy defended their donations because not only do they think
Emmer is "probusiness" - they also claim that he'll make jobs a big priority.

And we all know how important Minnesota jobs are to these two companies - just don't pay any attention to the outsourcing and H1B visas workers they hire at their headquarters. Or the fact you can hardly find anything "made is USA" at any of their stores.

6. Hey, it's not just teh gays, yanno.
It seems a lot of the customer base they've had for years because of their better buyers and higher quality big box stock have gotten offended by that asshole of a CEO, both his politics and how he's treating the people who work for him to make his money.

11. And the nerve of their TV commercials...
...specifically the "back-to-school" spots playing folk music about some imaginary land where "we're free to be you and me" -- meanwhile they're funding anti-gay homophobes candidates who seek to curtail our freedoms.

We're on to you, Big Businessman...

19. I mean the gay issue is big
but it's also the anti-labor, no regulation issue here. I didn't know about Best Buy--a couple of weeks ago bought at Best Buy. Guess that's next on the list. Best Buy and Target are now boycotted. I don't need my money supporting some looney tunes teabaggers just because the company thinks it's going to be good for them. How about the rest of the people and communities--I guess they're SOL as long as the company benefits. Screw'em!

17. Me either. I had to by a DVD for reference on a job yesterday. I drove out of my way
to avoid buying it at the nearby Target. It was only $19.00, but they won't even get that if they're hellbent on promoting bigotry against anyone!
