What will be the final undoing of Faux News ?
Edited on Fri Aug-20-10 02:44 PM by steve2470
Will it be with us forever ? Gawd I hope not.

on edit: I think Faux News is every bit as much our "enemy" as the R party.

1. IMO, the only way to bring down FOX is derision. When they become such a complete laughing stock
Edited on Fri Aug-20-10 01:58 PM by KittyWampus
that people become fully conscious of just what garbage it is. I'm talking about the public at large. Not liberals.

Too many people barely even notice it's on and just allow it to seep into their consciousness.

In other words, FOX news would have to become "uncool".

I just laugh dismissively. It works surprisingly well.

I saw him play that season, I was visiting relatives in Pittsburgh and went to a game they played against the Cubs - in August I think. I've got pics of him at bat.

10. Do you honestly think the people that watch it really believe it's fair and balanced?
They know full well it's propaganda. That's why they watch it - to have their prejudices confirmed. Of course, all of us do that to a certain extent. The difference is, Fox Noise viewers literally don't care whether something is true or not, as long as it fits their world view. I like to think that most people here wouldn't endlessly repeat a rumour that, say, Sarah Palin is being secretly funded by white supremacist groups (the nearest liberal analogue I could think of to the right's "Barack Obama is a secret Muslim who was born in Kenya" meme) knowing full well that it was nonsense.

13. A lot of people watch it because of the flashy presentation. Also, it's on in a lot of public places
It may reinforce many viewers' pre-existing bias. But for many other people, they just don't ever really delve that deeply and are simply responding to stimuli.

35. I've noticed lately...
... that it is on in a lot fewer public places than it used to be.

Down here in TX, it used to be on most public screens, now it is on a definite minority of them.

The financial crisis has REALLY hurt the Republicans and Fox by proxy. All those years and years of proclaiming deregulation and low taxes (for the rich) would bring universal prosperity, well now it isn't just us that know that is bullshit.

Fox will always have viewers.

40. I think that's where it starts
If you see it tuned in somewhere (restaurant, store, waiting room, etc) ask that the channel be changed. If you're asked why, simply say that their reporting is very poor; they often get basic facts of stories completely wrong. You're not sure if they just have really bad reporters and editors or are trying to purposely mislead. Then ask the (rhetorical) question, I'm not sure what's worse?

That should be the end of them.

Before that time, our greatest hope is that Americans return to sanity.

But if you're betting, I'd go with the sun.

12. Then you'll have to apply it to cable...
... fairness doctrine only covered broadcast media, not closed "private" cable systems.

If the fairness doctrine was brought into place "as is" then Fox Nuisance Channel would still continue as is.

I say the undoing of Fox will be when the vast majority of television viewing done is via the Internet and not any broadcast or cable media. That is hoping of course that net neutrality stays in place.

23. The heirs are worse than the old bastard
A Guardian journalist who interviewed me recently told me that Murdoch wanted to support Obama but his son talked him out of it. That's why he went with all guns blazing after Nick Clegg in the British election once he started to eclipse David Cameron (who Murdoch supported) in popularity. He didn't want to be seen to back a loser twice in a row for fear of damaging his reputation as a kingmaker.

26. FOX could be taken down in month.
Our GLBT friends have time and time again demonstrated how to combat prejudice. BOYCOTT. Take their boycott of COORS for an example. Not only did COORS stop its discrimination policies but they launched programs in their plants to fight discrimination.

If the Democrats united and boycotted every product advertised on FOX, refusing to buy even products they regard as necessary, it could be accomplished. I certainly hope that I am wrong, however, I don't look to see this happen in my lifetime. There is very limited unity in the party even to fight back against outright lies and deception that spews out of the massive propaganda machine that the Republican Party has amassed.
