Fla. church vows to burn Korans on 9/11, despite fire department objection
Fla. church vows to burn Korans on 9/11, despite fire dept. objection

A Florida church says it will go ahead with plans to burn copies of the Koran on Sept. 11, despite the city refusing to issue a burn permit, Orlando's Fox35 TV reports.

Indian Muslims shout anti-US slogans during a demonstration in New Delhi on Aug. 4 staged to protest the planned burning of a Koran by The Dove World Outreach Center in Florida.

By Raveendran,

The Dove World Outreach Center said early this month that it would burn copies of the Islamic holy text on church grounds to mark the ninth anniversary of the terrorist attacks.

But on Wednesday, the Gainesville Sun reports, Gainesville city officials denied the church a permit, saying the open burning of books is not allowed under the city's burning ordinance.

Interim Fire Chief Gene Prince says the church will be fined if it goes ahead with its plans, the TV station reports.

Mayor Craig Lowe, who has called Dove World a "tiny fringe group and an embarrassment to our community," backed the fire department's decision, the Sun reports.

Now, says Fox35, the church has issued an email that says: "The City of Gainesville denies burn permit -- BUT WE WILL STILL BURN KORANS."

"Things like 9-11, Fort Hood, and the honor killings. .. these are possibly not isolated incidents," Terry Jones, pastor of the center, told MyFoxOrlando.com last week. "These are things that, if we don't stand up now, they can increase."

6. these are *not*
Christians...they claim the title but not the ethos.

They need to go back and read what Christ said and how he acted.

If He were here today He would shake his head in sadness...but then try to show them the errors of their ways.

And burning the Koran is going to stop or slow this down how? I'd be burning a Bible in front of him just to watch his head explode.

4. Good! Here's what you do.
Put your entire congregation into that tiny little sanctuary (no baptismal water allowed), lock all doors and windows (from the outside), light fire, start breathing.

5. What is with these book burners?
I can't wrap my head around their fear and stupidity! What the hell do they think a book will do to them? They are hate filled and fear filled beyond my comprehension and I'm done trying to understand what their problems are.

They no longer fit my definition of human much less Christian.

17. Is there any way there could be anything more ridiculous added
to this already sordid display of stupidity?

You know, if they want to show an act of defiance by appearing to physically desecrate the Koran, they could buy an e-version of the Koran and then delete the copy in the presence of their congregation. They would be happy and the Fire Department wouldn't have to worry about the burning permit.

(Yes, my suggestion is also stupid. But, I'm trying to point out how stupid it is to think that Islam is harmed by the burning or deleting of a few Korans.)
