Faux Is Very Dangerous! Their Propaganda War On Islam Is Broadcast Unfiltered ALL OVER THE WORLD
Edited on Thu Aug-19-10 01:42 PM by Turborama
Oops! This was meant to be a reply to this OP containing Cenk's excellent article about Faux news: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

LOL

Anyway, edited to make it as a standalone thread now it's here...

He should do a piece about how Faux is broadcast unfiltered 24/7 AROUND THE WORLD! 84 broadcasters in Pakistan carry Faux news, for example. Here's the full list: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,184837,00.html

And here's the post I was trying to share with Tom

I think, in fact I know he'll find it very interesting how Faux is the ONLY American 'news' channel that is broadcast unfiltered spewing out their hatred ALL OVER THE WORLD.

What I find really worrying is this "war on Islam", that the Reich-wing are proclaiming, is being broadcast all over the world!

And they are giving the impression that Al Qaeda are right when they use the propaganda that America is at war with Islam, as Joe Scab's guest said and as did Keith's guest the other night (I'm terrible with names and haven't got time to watch the videos in those links again).

CNN International are covering it: http://edition.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/08/16/obama.islami...

Al Jazeera English are covering it: http://english.aljazeera.net/news/americas/2010/08/2010...

And Faux news is 'covering' it, obviously.

What makes it worse is that Faux news is broadcast unfiltered all over the world.

For example, in Pakistan there are 84 different broadcasters pumping out Faux news' fearmongering extreme Islamophobia unfiltered 24/7. (Of course, that was until the horrific events that started 2 weeks ago, who knows how many people even have electricity at the moment). Apart from everything else, this is most likely a major reason for the anti-American sentiment there.

The point I'm making is, what must the Muslims across the world be making of all this American hatred towards their religion that's being spewed out of their TVs?

PS If you haven't seen it yet, I recommend watching this video by ObamaComma:

Terror Babies. No, it's not National Inquirer, it's National Republican
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOu8ofb6L0g

I posted it here in the videos forum: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

14. You're baiting me!
;-) My FAVORITE series on AJ is "Witness." They do incredible exposes into the lives of ordinary people one rarely hears about. On the live channel their talking heads look like "WE ARE THE WORLD." Many are just so multi-culti, well-educated, thoughtful, British-accented no matter what they LOOK LIKE and able to flesh out NUANCE. THERE IS NO COMPARISON to ANYTHING in the M$M in the U.S.

I wish Americans cared enough to step out of their bubbles and make use of their access to this information and another POV. I've held out hope of this POSSIBILITY until recently.

I'm really glad I've found another AJ English fan here!

Did you see Riz Khan with John Pilger earlier? The best interview I've seen on what's currently going on in Iraq so far. (on edit: some of the callers asked excellent questions about taking Bush and Blair to court for war crimes, too)

There's no excuse, anyone can watch AJ English. They're streamed live for free on the internet.

http://www.livestation.com/channels/3-al-jazeera-englis...

And loads of their stuff, if not all, is uploaded to YouTube, as you obviously know.

23. Well, I've watched it
And I thought Barry Lynn did an excellent job on him. Ibrahim Hooper had some good things to say but his anger might put people off from what he was actually saying. Bradley Blakeman used the usual Reich wing propaganda tool that dates back to early 20th Century Germany, repeat the big lie often in the hope people believe it. He made totally unfounded insults on Abdul Rauf calling him a liar and a "sheep in wolves clothing" (deja vu to the 2008 election) and he was called out on it really well by Barry.

I was impressed by the host and overall thought this Bradley character did a good job exposing the insanity of America's Reich wing misanthropic/bigoted/sociopaths. They hear what people say but they don't listen. They read what's written but don't reflect on it. They speak from and to their followers reptilian brains.

I think it's worth watching and I'm glad I did. For anyone who hasn't got the time to watch it (plus for those who have) and want to know who these guests were...

I've posted threads re: AJE a couple tomes in the past. Only by watching can people see the difference between the quality and range of in depth reports on AJE and the petty gossip-mongering that is US cable news, with very few exceptions.

Maybe it's one of those things that needs to be done every few months on a "just in case you missed it" basis?

In fact for my 1st year here I had a link to AJE's livestation channel in my signature line. I'll probably do that again at some point, as well.

Oh, and I totally agree with all your "only by watching comments". It's a real shame they don't broadcast CNN International in the States, too. It's a totally different animal and bears no resemblance to its shallow/narrow agenda driven cousin in the US.

The business profs that I know are all conservative. It's kind of amazing, the anti-Islam, or anti- Arab, or anti-Indian people who live in the UAE, with only the thinnest of veneers. It's also amazing how isolated many people are here, choosing only to interact with a few people. Living here is a wonderful opportunity to interact with and learn from people from all over, but not everyone takes that opportunity.

38. I know exactly what you mean
I'm an expat living in Indonesia. I have made a lot of Indonesian friends and am married to an Indonesian, so I have a new Indonesian family, too.

However, there is a neo-colonial feel about the expat "bubble" here. There's a few of us (expats) here who do not fall into that category and funnily enough they are the cooler of the two groups without even knowing it (or caring), even though the "bubble" people think they're the coolest people in the world, lol.

Glad to hear you get CNN International, too. Sounds like you get the same breadth of news channels we get here. BBC World is another really good one.

34. Al Jazeera is quite a good news organisation IMO.
When they started, a lot of the staff were from the former BBC World Service Arabic TV service, that was shut down because the Saudi paymasters didn't like what the channel was broadcasting.

Al Jaseera have taken the basics of excellent reporting and ran with it. If Fox Fiction Channel's tagline was "We Report, You Decide"... well this tagline definitely belongs with Al-Jazeera. They do report... and report on things that certain governments and entities would rather not be broadcast openly. Of course we know Fox Fiction gave up on reporting a long time ago and want you to decide their view is the only way.

I guess the US media distributors are fearful of Al Jazeera. In the UK it's even available for some of the time on digital broadcast TV, but it is available 24/7 via satellite (free to air, no subscription needed).

I wouldn't be surprised if Cheney is working in cahoots on this with Ailes, actually. If you look at the Faux link above you'll see that they have put more effort into distributing Faux in Pakistan than they have in any other country. Why do you think that is?

Why else would they rile up Al Queda with their lies and hatred. Maybe, just maybe, we should 'follow the money trail' ... Since they seem to have the mother-load of news outlets over there, who's going to be the beneficiary of the 'breaking news' which leads to money = Faux Republican News! Who has the in-roads to private companies during wartime = Cheney, Rove, Bush = Republicans = Faux Republican News! if they pump them up enough to try to attack America, who gets the blame - Obama! 51. Who should "filter" them?
"Filter" them how?

Who would make such decisions?

52. That isn't the point of this thread.
Edited on Wed Aug-25-10 04:22 AM by Turborama
Don't go by the title alone....

However, that point was addressed in a subthread from post #4 on.

The points in the subthread that started at post #6 are the ones that concern me the most.

ETA: As I said in the LBN article I linked to above your question...

Remember the reaction to the Mohammed cartoons? This is pure provocation for a terrorist attack

Edited on Wed Aug-25-10 04:55 PM by Turborama

There were riots all over the world, people died and some heavy shit went down over the cartoons. If you need a reminder do a quick google search.

They want another 9/11 to happen on Obama's watch and then they can say "he didn't keep us safe".

As I said in reply #30... What's the worst thing you can do to provoke a Muslim extremist or even just tipping Muslims over the edge?

Burning the Qur'an, basically.

If this Qu'ran burning happens, do you think only local media will report it?

Or, do you think it will be Broadcast Unfiltered ALL OVER THE WORLD by Faux?

53. Who will "pull the plug"?
The government? Or someone else?

Do you mean "pull the plug" on the whole network? Or do you mean to "filter" just certain commentators?

How will you "pull the plug" on them, exactly? Do you mean their shows will be gone? Then what if they also go on other networks or shows?

What if they are offered a show on another network?

Or what if they write a book?

By "pull the plug," do you mean silence them in other ways, or just on Faux News? Just in broadcasting?

Are you going to arrest them?

What are you going to "filter," exactly?

Who will make these decisions?

Based on what?

54. It was just wishful thinking.

And I did add that "I know it's not a very popular idea to set that precedent in America but the rest of the world would be extremely grateful!"

They have proved that they are not a legitimate news organization and they are a propaganda machine for a political party multiple times. The most blatant and recent example is the donation they gave to the Republican Governors' Association.

Picking up on the "unfiltered" thing you seem to be concerned about. Have you noticed what else I said? That they are the ONLY US news channel that is broadcast globally as is = unfiltered. CNN International is excellent and is totally different from CNN USA, for example. In fact, I think CNN would do themselves a massive favor if they broadcast CNNI in the states as well as CNN USA.

Anyway, the main point of this thread is to help people be aware of the wider global impact Faux is having on America's image. Particularly at the moment, with their propaganda war against Islam getting more and more visceral. And to question their motives for broadcasting their anti-Islam propaganda "unfiltered" globally.

I said at the beginning of the title that they are "Very Dangerous", meaning that this is a warning.

Personally, I think what they are doing is a national security threat to America and to Americans abroad.

If you want to see what this propaganda war against Islam consists of, I can come back to you with multiple links or you can watch Faux on TV at a random time of day.

What it's resulting in is what Bloomberg is warning of:

"And we would hand a valuable propaganda tool to terrorist recruiters, who spread the fallacy that America is at war with Islam"
In this OP: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

And as stated in an article by The Independent I posted here:

The real risk is that it will reinforce the impression that the US, contrary to every assurance given since 9/11, is opposed to Islam, period. Which is precisely the argument of a certain Osama bin Laden.

=snip=

For as David Ramadan, a Republican and an Arab-American, put it on public radio here the other day, "If two blocks is too close, is four blocks acceptable? Or six blocks? Or eight blocks? Does our party believe that one can only practise his or her religion in certain places, which define boundaries, and away from the disapproving glances of some other citizens?"

If that is the case, millions more Muslims around the world will understandably take the view that America believes that Islam is an inferior faith, to be circumscribed and marginalised. The extremists will indeed find new recruits, and the meaning of 9/11 will be eroded. For Ground Zero is indeed a place of unspeakable wickedness, but not a place of Christian martyrdom. Among the victims that day were 300 Muslims as well."

The Reichwing media aren't called that for nothing

55. I think the statement was rhetorical. But didn't the government
already pull the plug on Bill Maher's 'Politically Incorrect'? Phil Donohue's best rated MSNBC Show? Ashley Banfield, and how many of the best journalists, such as Dahr Jamail, Greg Palast, Paul Craig Roberst eg, are basically banned from the U.S. media?

So while it may or may not have been rhetorical, it's not as though we respect the 1st Amendment, it's just that we're selective about it. And Faux is not on the hit list of the MIC apparently.

I personally think Faux's mission is to rouse up anger toward Arabs/Muslims so that when they are ready for war with Iran, the dumbed down audience of completely indoctrinated morons will be fully in support of it barely aware that Iran is a different coutnry than Afghanistan.

56. Roughly 100 Indonesian Islamists protested outside the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta on Friday

I live in Indonesia and this is starting to worry me a lot and is making me feel really unsafe...

Church threatened for Koran burning

GAINSVILLE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35, Orlando) - International protests have begun -- with some demonstrators threatening jihad -- in advance of a Florida church's plan to burn copies of the Koran on Sept. 11. Roughly 100 Indonesian Islamists protested outside the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta on Friday, Agence France-Press reported, with some threatening holy war if the plan to burn Korans on the ninth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks comes to fruition at the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Fla.

"No one will be able to control this reaction," Roni Ruslan, of Hizbut Tahrir, a radical organization than advocates Islamic law, told Agence France-Press. "We urge the U.S. government and Christian leaders to stop the crazy plan from this small sect. It's an insult to Islam and to 1.5 billion Muslims around the world."

Protesters at the U.S. Embassy shouted chants of "God is greater" while holding signs that read "Destroy Burners of the Koran," among others, according to AFP. Meanwhile, Pastor Terry Jones has said he intends to proceed with plans to burn the holy text next month.

Reported by guess who? http://www.myfoxorlando.com/dpp/news/local/082710_Churc...

57. Reported by Fox! Naturally.
They remind me of the radio station in Rwanda who everyone now agrees, was largely responsible for the genocide there. While the Western World was debating whether or not to shut them down, over 800,000 people were slaughtered.

Sometimes I wonder if we don't take this 'freedom of the press' too far. If you saw someone on the street urging people to go attack someone, would you hesitate to call the police to put a stop to them? Why should it be any different if it's done with a microphone? I wonder if the laws that apply to 'hate speech' should not apply to radio and tv personalities who use the microphone as a 'command center'.
