4. I know this is difficult to people to comprehend
but these are NOT combat troops. What they are doing is training, advising SUPPORTING. They are SUPPORT troops.

I know this is a difficult thing to explain UNLESS you have any understanding of the military.

9. Hmm no, those WERE combat troops in 1963
Ever served? Or know anybody who has? You may want to ask the difference. I am serious.

By the way some of these troops are engineers, so yes, they are helping with silly shit like BUILDING SCHOOLS and Water systems.

17. And I know my son will be doing convoy security and still a target
Yeah, I am glad combat missions are ending - but that does not mean many are not going to still be targets. Only now we have less people there to protect them.

19. I realize that, but this is also part of the agreements
Your son should and probably did receive the basic training that should keep him safe though. Or as safe as you can be in the middle of a firefight.

Look, I was technically support, in a well marked ambulance, and I stopped counting the times I came under fire in the last two years I did that ok. And I did not have a weapon to protect myself with either.

Edited on Wed Aug-18-10 06:58 PM by JonLP24
As well as the ones providing security. They got to get as much stuff as possible out of there and that is where the truck drivers come in.

how this doesn't count as "combat", I don't know. Maybe a Vietnam-style "police action"?

15. These folks aren't just going to shoot in self defense.
The administration and the Pentagon have already said that the "support" troops will engage in combat operations with the Iraqi security forces if they ask for our help. The only thing standing between those troops and active combat operations is a phone call.

Most of these troops will be actively participating in security sweeps and combat patrols alongside the Iraqi army.

regardless of how you feel about it.

And there is more... willing to predict our media will mostly NOT report on it either.

I know you do pay attention, but for the rest that do not... they have not formed a government from the last set of elections. Oh and I did forget to mention the bombings.
