This is a good point -- the R's have been doing this for 30+ years, definitely not so much for Democrats. When people talk about the "huge" majority this Administration has in Congress -- while generally adequate on the House side, folks seem to forget that 13 of the Democratic Senators are from States that voted for McCain in 2008, and 4 more represent States that went for President Obama by fewer than 2-percentage points. That's not really much of a "progressive" presence -- and several of them have been around much longer than a Rahm Emanuel, who seems to get the lion's share of blame for DLC or DINO-types. While working to elect more progressives, I hope the Democratic base does not do a Republican-style purge of anyone not "pure" enough to be in the Party.

but my husband and I have decided we HAVE to support the Dems, because of the alternative. Yes, I've voiced my displeasure and cut down on donating, but we are donating to progressive candidates and we will help get out the vote. I really cannot imagine how fast we'd go down the toilet (yeah, we're on the way now!) if the Republicans regain power. Yes, I am and have been angry and at times, I've considered becoming an Independent. How else can our country get back on the correct path for "WE the PEOPLE", if we all don't pull together!

I came to the Democratic party from the left to try to effect change by working within the proscribed choices that could possibly make a difference. Removing my name from a list-serve doesn't mean I'm going to live in a cave. I was surprised that they asked me why and I let them know. I do not and will not support the DCCC, the DNC or the DLC. Does that make me a bad Democrat? I will continue to fight for truly progressive candidates. But I cannot support many of the cast of characters Obama has surrounded himself with who continue to promote a corporatist agenda and continue with illegal wiretapping, Gitmo, war and who refuse to take criminals who supported and engaged in torture.

But perhaps Gibbs and Emanuel (and Obama) need to know how they are perceived outside the bubble by some of us who worked hard to bring them to power.

Working at the local precinct level here in Texas, I am seeing a great deal of enthusiasm missing, with many giving the same emotions as the OP. Granted, it is the mid-terms, but the mid-terms in 06 saw MUCH greater enthusiasm, at least from my small perspective.
