Original message |
| I unsubscribed to all of my Obama emails today and |
|
in each case a box popped up asking me why.
My answer: "Gibbs and Emanuel, because as a liberal progressive I am tired of being marginalized."
How do they expect me to care in November? Yes I will vote, but how can I have any passion after they threw me under the bus?
Sorry for being negative but this is so depressing.

President Obama IS abiding by his Oath of Office. And for those that were paying attention , he is doing exactly what he promised. <http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises /> And for the majority of democrats, that is good enough ESPECIALLY when considering the republican alternatives.

Rahm, and all the rest of the divisive DLCers continue to slam the base of this party, that is a very good prospect.
I am hoping Obama will do the right thing and replace these negative, amateurs and dirty tricksters with some decent Democrats so we can stop Republicans from taking over in Novmenber. He should listen to Grayson, who realizes, smart man that he is, that he must distance himself from Gibbs et al in order to win in November.

that while there they have about a 5% of patients falling through them cracks. we are up to 40% who have NO access. What 'bout them apples?
And I know how the system works. When the President gets involved and uses that political capital, he can get things done... see LBJ, and 1965 Civil Rights Act
When POTUS pretty much says, you guys get it done... don't care how... we get very weak bills. They are better than nothing, but we could have had much more.
By the way, my brother practiced medicine at Toronto General, so I am somewhat familiar with the system. I did my EMS in Mexico, and THAT is a failed hybrid system. Want to compare notes?

What about when we took back both Houses of Congress due to their efforts? Were they happy then? What about when They won the Presidency for Obama? Were they happy? Yes THEY won the election., They are the teachers and Union workers and Social workers and nurses and all those "Professional Leftists " who knocked on doors made phone calls , stuffed envelopes and voted. Some of them did it despite Obama not being their Primary choice but they did it because they had "hope" and they were happy to see a Dem in office. Unfortunately, no one does that for nothing.Their bill is past due and the WH is running out of credit. These people want to see a return on their investment and so far the dividends have been much smaller than anticipated. And if there is no progressive Majority who the hell did we vote for in 2006 and 2008? And why were we supposed to vote for them?

We use to love and admire teachers.
It was easy to join a union.
Almost everyone had health care and decent paying job.
Education was affordable.
You could afford a home of your own.
What we use to take for granted we now call progressive!

Most of the Dems in the senate are center-right, and the situation is not much better in the house.
Maybe progressives should start voting for another party which may actually be progressive. Because the Dems sure as fuck ain't interested in any progressive platform except for some exceptions. But you can use the exception to justify the rule for so long.
The prospect of a GOP victory is not what scares the lot of you as much as it is the prospect of the Dems actually having to get votes by actually earning them. That is "hard work" isn't it?

... I think the problem is there's a perceived lack of progressive effort.
If it seemed the Obama admin/Dem leadership wanted progressive results, fought for them and ended up being beaten back to exactly where we are now due to political realities there would be much more progressive enthusiasm.
While you can keep making the argument that republicans would be worse, it's feeble negative message that doesn't really motivate. Unfortunately it's the only real argument left.

| 41. Explain what you mean by 'gnashing of teeth'. There is no |
|
substance to that comment. Three members of Congress so far have explained to the WH Press Sec why his whining is so off base.
Who is 'gnashing teeth' just for the sake of it and give an example of what that means. I AM familiar with some of the legitimate criticism which could hardly be called teeth gnashing, unless you believe that allowing Republicans to privatize SS by eroniously tying it to the deficit is something we should just sit quietly by like good little soldiers and do nothing about about because NOW it is being done by a Democratic Administration.
Was it teeth gnashing when we loudly protested the attempts by Bush to it?
I don't know what these kind of comments are supposed to mean, they say absolutely nothing so I would appreciate an explanation.
If the keys are being handed to Republicans it certainly is not the fault of all those of us who took them away, is it? That is a ridiculous statement.

The similarities with the MO of the average GOP operative are just astounding. Heck, the person you're replying to is even using the same FUD talking points regarding the "awfulness" of the Canadian health care system.
If this is the change they were peddling a couple of years ago, they can't keep it. I most definitively am starting to get the impression the definition of change was in part regarding liberals "being abused by the GOP to be abused by the Dem leadership."

If it were Congress Critters that rode Obama's shirt tails into office, I would work my ass off again to get better Congress Critters. Since I currently have Rep. Allen Boyd (FL-Blue Dog) and Sen. Bill Nelson (FL-DINO) representing me, that would be a good way for me to go. I did contact Kendrick Meek and Alex Sinks's campaigns to offer my time, but all they want from me so far is money and I have none I can donate this year. (Speaking of which, I just got a robo-call from Nancy Pelosi asking me to vote for and to donate to Kendrick Meek!)
But Obama has surrounded himself with the kind of people I would never have voted for, so I am disgusted.

A majority has nothing to do with it.
If you are going to pretend the Senate's rules don't exist, why stop at 51? Why not go to 35 or 20?
I am just pointing out the absurdity of your fantasy world, where supermajority rules that have existed for over two hundred years suddenly don't exist anymore.

have large conservative and or independent bases. A solid progressive will not win. America is diverse in it's political demographic. There are places where a Kucinich can win as a demo and there are places were only a Nelson can win as Dem. Kucinich, Grayson, Shumer, all would be unemployed in Nebraska. That's just a fact.

Did I say I wasn't going to vote? Did I say I'm quitting the Democratic Party? No, I unsubscribed from a lame list-serve while barking at the moon.
I said I feel marginalized. I am not alone. They (Emanuel, Gibbs, Obama et al) need to wake up though and begin to have a clue that if they continue to cater to the monied and powerful they will lose the passion of the ground troops. At some point in the presidential race the money shifted from the $50 donations to bump up the thermometer to the big corporate bucks, large expensive fundraisers etc. Those folks now have their ear, not me.
I have been marginalized and the support I give in the upcoming cycle will be motivated more by the necessity to keep the Republican disastrous agenda at bay and to try to help true progressives get elected.

And we work to move politics to the left and work to get progressive candidates elected. Do you know how the extreme right took over the republican party? By getting candidates at all levels of government. By running for school boards, etc, etc.

|
This is a good point -- the R's have been doing this for 30+ years, definitely not so much for Democrats. When people talk about the "huge" majority this Administration has in Congress -- while generally adequate on the House side, folks seem to forget that 13 of the Democratic Senators are from States that voted for McCain in 2008, and 4 more represent States that went for President Obama by fewer than 2-percentage points. That's not really much of a "progressive" presence -- and several of them have been around much longer than a Rahm Emanuel, who seems to get the lion's share of blame for DLC or DINO-types. While working to elect more progressives, I hope the Democratic base does not do a Republican-style purge of anyone not "pure" enough to be in the Party.

I do have more interest in local politics at this time. But I do feel that the administration has lost touch and that is dangerous. It will only be worse if Republicans take over the House and Gibbs et al are not helping with their cavalier attitude towards many of the people who voted them in. Yes they need independents, but if they take the base for granted and they don't come out to vote it could get ugly.

Coming on the heels of him, in essence, conceding the House a couple of weeks ago, I'm really starting to wonder. And I have to ask, does Speaker Boehner sound good to Gibbs? This is like bizarro world or something.

if you stay at du you will still know what is going on. And as soon as one of those repugs says something on tv you will get over this. Because they will eventually say something that is going to piss you off. And this rant will be forgotten. Happens all the time. Sometimes you fell like its all for nothing, but there is no way in hell you can go back wards. And yes you do know what the alternatives are. We are all holding on,and trying to keep it together. And even though we are progressive in thought, are congress is not in deed.Don't worry I believe in November the repugs will have a rude awakening. I don't believe polls that have not asked my opinion.

Palin for preznit... she would destroy the GOP and bring a quick end to our misery. It would be painful but better than this "death by a thousand cuts". Dems and Pugs are owned by the corporations and nothing is going to change that except for a complete meltdown under batshit crazy preznit palin. Country is pretty much destroyed, then we rebuild. The GOP splinters into a fringe neo-facist minority party (republican) and the moderate pugs join with the conservative Dems to form a new conservative party... lets call it the Democratic party... very similar to what the Republican party was prior to Reagan. The majority of the former Democratic party forms a new party, lets call it the Progressive party. Then maybe we can find the "change we can believe in" and in two or three generations America rises from the ashes and becomes the great country we once knew

but my husband and I have decided we HAVE to support the Dems, because of the alternative. Yes, I've voiced my displeasure and cut down on donating, but we are donating to progressive candidates and we will help get out the vote. I really cannot imagine how fast we'd go down the toilet (yeah, we're on the way now!) if the Republicans regain power. Yes, I am and have been angry and at times, I've considered becoming an Independent. How else can our country get back on the correct path for "WE the PEOPLE", if we all don't pull together!

I came to the Democratic party from the left to try to effect change by working within the proscribed choices that could possibly make a difference. Removing my name from a list-serve doesn't mean I'm going to live in a cave. I was surprised that they asked me why and I let them know. I do not and will not support the DCCC, the DNC or the DLC. Does that make me a bad Democrat? I will continue to fight for truly progressive candidates. But I cannot support many of the cast of characters Obama has surrounded himself with who continue to promote a corporatist agenda and continue with illegal wiretapping, Gitmo, war and who refuse to take criminals who supported and engaged in torture.
But perhaps Gibbs and Emanuel (and Obama) need to know how they are perceived outside the bubble by some of us who worked hard to bring them to power.
