In the confusion that reigns in the aftermath of a traffic accident involving a transit system bus, it is not unusual for a bystander on the sidewalk to board the bus unnoticed, snatch a transfer if he can, and then exit the bus, holding his neck and moaning in pretended pain. He has suffered no injury whatsoever, his sole intent being to cash in after the fact without having to work for a living. He demands a payoff, which he hopes will tide him over until his next opportunity to draw attention to himself for his imaginary injury.
Some people think of this as a business model, but it's just a con.
