Desperate In Atlanta (And How Many Other Places?)

Desperate In Atlanta (And How Many Other Places?)
by Abby Zimet
08.11.10 - 10:24 PM

An unbelievable scene at an Atlanta shopping center, where 30,000 people - some of whom had waited two days - stood for hours in sweltering heat to get applications for Section 8 subsidized housing. Applications, not guarantees. For a waiting list, not an existing home. Dozens fainted, as police in riot gear held back the desperate crowd. One commentator asked, "Aren't we better than this?" Answer: Apparently not.

"No Section 8 vouchers are available at this time. There are no public housing units available at this time. You're applying for the waiting list only." - Sign on office door.

2. Mike Malloy went apeshit over this on his show last night.
Thirty thousand people trying to apply for 400 units. That's just over a 1% chance of getting a unit.

It's going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

3. I guess many are sorry for voting against their/or better interests
unfortunately a lot of the rest of us are caught up in the Second Great Depression.
Gee, How is that drowned in the bathtub got workin for yas?

I think we need to drown a bunch of neokons and their enablers..but not in a bath tub out to see a few miles to see if the fat fuckers can swim back from 20 miles out.

"Because this sorry ass situation is the long-term fallout of Republiconomics, we must blame Obama. The only solution is MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE tax cuts for rich republicons. Smirk."

6. Why can't they just build homes instead of maintaining waiting lists?
