Oh the last time they did that was in the 1970s, going from 75 to 60, and that was also a Democratic Senate.

1.- When the Senate first meets it is rules free. It can vote new rules in. The last time it was done was 1975 when it went from 75 to 60.

No matter what the numbers are in the Senate, I can guarantee you that many of us "whiners" would be cheering Obama if he would have at least TRIED to fight for us. With regard to just one issue...Health Care... He could have gone to congress with a list of things that had to be in the final health care bill - including a public option that anyone could buy into, and then said "here, figure out how to make all this work...but make it work"..rather than telling Congress to come up with whatever they wanted and then water it down and water it down into something that can't even be called "reform".
If he had even put the screws to Ben Nelson and Blanche Lincoln and Kent Conrad and all the others...and told them that he had to have their vote on this bill....that would have helped. But he didn't.
He's spent too much time trying to appease the right and they've given him nothing in return...not one vote...not to mention non-stop obstruction. If he thinks that turning his back on the left in order to reach out to the right will endear him to repub voters....I think he might be the one who needs a drug test.
