Robert Gibb's Appreciation Thread!
This episode will teach Democrats a valuable lesson---one which they need to learn well in advance of the fall midterm elections.

The corporate media loves the Republican Party. They will write or say anything that divides and conquers Democrats. Some gay person somewhere blames Blacks for Prop 8? The MSM will turn that into all gays hate all Blacks for Prop 8. Some woman thinks more time should be devoted to women's issues and less time to minority issues? The MSM will turn that into all women think their problems are worse than minorities'.

The headline of the Hill article proves it is RW propaganda. White House unloads anger over criticism from 'professional left Note that Gibbs is not mentioned. The implication is that Obama said it. Thousands to millions of Americans who only read headlines will go to bed tonight thinking that Obama said it. Note the use of the word "anger." Democrats are always portrayed as "angry" "violent" "mob like" in MSM headlines.

Once we get over this episode of righteous indignation, at least a few people here are going to think "Hey, why did not we write about how the banksters are donating all that bail out money to Republicans?" And they will realize it is because the MSM would prefer to have them fight among themselves. They will realize that the Founders were correct. "We must all hang together or we will hang separately."

Thank you, Robert Gibb's for sacrificing your political career in order to teach us an important lesson.

3. Sounds a lot like a comment Rahm made about a specific tactic
being morphed into "The White House calls liberals fucking retarded." Big difference between the often repeated version and the actual comment, which Rahm apologized for. People looking for a reason to be offended will find it.

4. No. I don't appreciate him.
"The corporate media loves the Republican Party. They will write or say anything that divides and conquers Democrats."

Prominent Democrats have no problem writing or saying anything that divides Democrats either.

"The headline of the Hill article proves it is RW propaganda. White House unloads anger over criticism from 'professional left Note that Gibbs is not mentioned. The implication is that Obama said it."

They need to brush up on reading comprehension if they really believe that the President is the only person who is, runs, has anything to do with, or speaks for the WH.

"Once we get over this episode of righteous indignation, at least a few people here are going to think "Hey, why did not we write about how the banksters are donating all that bail out money to Republicans?" And they will realize it is because the MSM would prefer to have them fight among themselves. They will realize that the Founders were correct. "We must all hang together or we will hang separately."

Thank you, Robert Gibb's for sacrificing your political career in order to teach us an important lesson."

First of all, you're implying that 1) we can really do anything about political donations now that Citizens United is done and 2) nobody is (I'm not because I'm not deluded enough to waste the postage in thinking it'd work).

And if I learned that the "professional left", whatever he meant by it, wouldn't be happy even if Kucinich was president. I would be...

5. While I am offending people, here is some more bad news. Socialists---
---- pegged Obama as a "corporate Democrat" early, early in the 2008 campaign season. Any Democrat who voted for him not realizing that he was a corporate Democrat was not paying as much attention as the Socialists---the true "professional liberals" in this country.

http://socialistworker.org/2008/06/18/obama-circle-of-h...

http://socialistworker.org/2008/06/27/candidate-makes-r...

It was all there is black and white for anyone to read.

And the Marxists had him figured out even before the Socialists.

http://www.marxist.com/barack-obama.htm

This is why I have a hard time feeling sorry for those who claimed that they got fooled.

6. Give me a break.
Anyone who thought he'd even attempt to keep his promises is a hardline socialist, and now you're even using Gibbs' language.

I got fooled because I was told that if I made Barack Obama my President, I'd get NAFTA renegotiated.

I got fooled because I was told that if I made Barack Obama my President, I'd get a President who would FIGHT for a public option, not abandon it as soon as possible.

I got fooled because I was told that if I made Barack Obama my President, I'd get Social Security, which he said "I absolutely agree that Social Security is not in crisis," dealt with by a small payroll tax hike on 250k+ incomes, not some farce of a commission that's seriously considering raising the retirement age to 70.

I got fooled because I was told that if I made Barack Obama my President, I'd get a President who pretended to give a shit about Don't Ask, Don't Tell during a time of war.

I got fooled because I was told that if I made Barack Obama my President, I'd get a President who was committed to campaign finance reform, and stopping corporations from writing our laws. I would hope this one is self-explanatory.

18. So it's come down to red-baiting?
It wasn't just the "Socialists", it was Noam, it was Ralph, it was a lot of people within the Democratic Party, and honestly, a lot of us knew that there was a limit to what Obama would do to "change" things. What we were hoping was that that limit would be somehow connected to his campaign promises... yes, he promised more involvement, not less, in Afghanistan, but he also promised to close Gitmo. The promises he keeps are the ones we tolerated when we supported him, and the ones he breaks are the change we were hoping for. This is why we are disappointed. We knew he never promised to be Marx, and I think it's safe to say most of us don't want Marx. And maybe some of us even fooled ourselves into thinking he would veer left instead of right in breaking with campaign rhetoric, but I never expected that.

But now you're saying that "professional liberals" are socialists, and swallowing the right-wing talking point that socialism = communism = russia = bad = the enemy within, etc... And yet you accuse US of giving in to right-wing talking points. If you think Obama fighting for his base would make him a dirty Pinko, then YOU, my friend, are the one who's advocating Republican wingnut ideology.

8. "The headline of the Hill article proves it is RW propaganda."- Really? If the Obama WH will pay
$250K/year (it's middle class, according to Charlie Gibson)- then I will help you re-word this ham-fisted bullshit line of propaganda.

Until I'm bought off... I'll point out that you're full of shit. "The corporate media loves the Republican Party. They will write or say anything that divides and conquers Democrats. " Bullshit. All anyone needs to do to prove this wrong is post a link to any segment of Olbermann or Maddow.

Ohh, and... have you ever had any experience composing Headlines? For the Web they're pretty easy... but for a print copy, headlines are an artform in and of themselves. The space is limited, and the highpoints are easily determined... details usually won't fit unless the story is HUGE. Your points regarding the Hill headlines mostly demonstrate that you are clueless about the art of headlines... and your supposition that no one is working on stories about the banksters supporting Republicans with bail-out money... is a sure sign of self-delusional thinking. The first reporter who gets proof of that will get a prime time interview and will be on his/her way to becoming the next Eugene Robinson. To think otherwise is to be simple.

11. Gee, you would have thought they would have learned from the Shirley Sherrod
incident, or learned when they ignored the Mass race for Kennedy's seat until it was too late, or learned when the republicans came right up after Obama became President and said they would do everything in their power to see that nothing passes

Remember how HCR was going to be Obama's Waterloo?

Can this administration forget about compromise with the republicans, and try to cater to them, and instead try to build unity within their own party for a change?

If this is a case of the corporate media attempting to divide and conquer the Democrats, why do you suppose the White House Press Secretary is so willing to be a complicit and integral part of dividing us?

And your advice for the takeaway from this pretty much boils down to "we should sit down and shut up and take it". And if we do, it will never matter who wins. Who would ever bother fighting for someone who doesn't fight for himself?

probably agree.

It is interesting that you talk about us needing to hang together so we don't hang seperately. Yet who was Gibbs criticizing? The "professional left" that goes on TV and says things like "Obama is like Bush." What does that do? It gives fodder to Fox and others to tout disagreement!

Gibbs agrees with you entirely!

No, you can't come over for dinner.

No, I will not teach you how to be like me.

No, I don't want to hang out with you.

No, I don't think you're cute.

No, you can't hold Sparkly's hand unless she allows it.

No, we can't talk sports.

No, I really don't care very much for you.

So following me around and replying to many of my down thread comments made to people who are not you, is annoying, childish, and rude. And frankly, more than just a little creepy.

When the WHITE HOUSE PRESS SECRETARY says something you don't have to be a rabid RW operation to say "WH SAYS SOMETHING"

It is the standard way of headlining such a story.

There is no implication whatsoever that Obama said it.

"Obama" has fewer letters than "White House"

Headlines about Obama attract more attention, not less.
