Edited on Mon Aug-09-10 08:44 PM by Jackpine Radical
is a sad commentary on the state of affairs. Why can't we have leadership that inspires us with its positive strides rather than one we are exhorted to keep around out of fear of something worse?

like a public option, ending too big to fail, bringing troops home..

If only Glenn Beck or Breitbart were on board. Then Democrats would finally have the cover they need to enact that hugely popular far left agenda!!1!

23. You watch, if Boner becomes speaker, democrats will cave at every opportunity.
And if republicans take the senate, democrats would never threaten to filibuster. Hell, they would vote with republicans to go to war against another country. Every democrat who voted to authorize Bush to go to war should be thrown out of office. They are not fit to lead. Any goddamned fool would have known Bush had planned to go to war against Iraq. And not ONE democrat spoke up and even asked "HOW WAS IRAQ GOING TO ATTACK THE UNITED STATES WITHIN 45 MINUTES IN THE FORM OF A MUSHROOM CLOUD", not one! How stupid are these people?

BTW, TYVM for your service, my father (Navy) & two of my ex's served (Navy & Marines)!
Although I don't hold all soldiers as heroes, my one ex told me stories in Vietnam that I couldn't believe were done by my fellow citizens. :(
Hope that doesn't insult you, it's certainly not mean to -- I'm just sharing.
I know this world comprises all kinds, and that especially in a War Theatre one can't be too judgmental -- War Is Hell, after all...

45. No offense taken at all.
Our military HAS been involved in a lot of atrocities. I'm sure they happen with great frequency. And our soldiers who forced to fight in an unwinbable war must be horror stricken when they realize they have killed little children and babies in Afghanistan. Many are so overcome by guilt they kill themselves. Suicide rates keep rising as the futility of this war lingers on. I couldn't imagine living if I killed a child. But military leaders keep sending our soldiers to do the impossible in a no-win situation.

If we stayed in Afghanistan for another hundred years it would all resort back to the pre-war days as soon as our last soldier left that country. Everything we are doing there is for absolutely nothing, except to profit weapons makers and other war profiteers. I've always wondered why corporations are not forced to 'sacrifice' by not accepting any profits during wartime. Why isn't there a law mandating that NO business should be allowed to profit off of any war? And if they violate that law every executive in that business would be thrown in prison for twenty years if they profited off our war dead.

Thanks for your appreciation for my service to my country. It's strange but it seems our military would be better utilized right here in the US fighting against the real enemies of the American people, like corrupt businesses and corrupt politicians who are nothing but prostitutes to their corporate pimps. We had no threat from Iraq. We had no threat from Afghanistan. Those countries couldn't have attacked the US. It is idiotic to fight a non-conventional enemy with a conventional military. We couldn't win in Vietnam and we won't win in Afghanistan.

We should have used a small covert force and increased our on-the-ground intelligence to fight Al Qaeda in Afghanistan. The way we are fighting that war is reckless and stupid. Imagine a foreign military occupying the US and blowing up entire towns to get one guilty person. Americans would strike back at any occupying force and hate them for killing their families. You don't win the hearts and minds of people by killing their loved ones. I've never heard one person in the media or the government make this analogy. But not one person in the media or government even asked the question, "How could Iraq or Afghanistan even attack the United States?".

There are undoubtedly more members of Al Qaeda in the US than in Afghanistan so does that mean we are going to attack our own cities, or will we do it the right way, as a police action using intelligence, rather than hundreds of thousands of our soldiers killing anyone who might 'look' like a terrorist?

46. Thank you for taking the time to write that great response
I agree with every word! It seems some of our soldiers DO 'win hearts and minds'
and string them on their belt!

In regards to our latest wars of choice, isn't it funny --and I know this has become a meme-- that we're still "friends with" the country who spawned the vast majority of 9-11 hijackers? The same country who is a bloody theocracy and executes it's own citizens (mostly women from what I've seen) using Sharia law?

Furthermore, in addition to corporations not profiting in wartime, I would like to see their children forced to serve
& not like Shrub, but DEEP in the shit
for the duration!

It's always been interesting to me that Bush the First got in then out of his gulf war quickly and (fairly) cleanly
--about the only good thing I'll say about him--
while his one son (and there's another political son waiting in the wings! *shudder*) did... all that he did.

It's also sad that this country isn't even INVESTIGATING, like Britain is, how/why we really got into these wars of foolishness and lies
But but but 'look ahead, not back'
Butt!
If ever I get arrested, esp. for something evil like murder, that's the defense I'm gonna use
this White House set a precedent, didn't they? :puke:

And I'm not even going to get IN to this 'surgical precision' where all killed are Al-Qaeda or "terrorists", the 'embedded journalists' of whom we don't read squat (unless it's puff pieces about big bad soldiers saving Middle East kittens, of the cowardly & very deadly (IMHO) drones and videos of helicopter gunsights, complete with the cheering & comments like 'let's go find (more) target(s)'! :puke: yet again!

*big hugs*

to be better. But when it comes to voting -- there's no question. I'm not going to throw my vote away. In the general election, I'll vote for the more progressive person, even if s/he's only a bit more progressive than the Rethug.

20. Some people never learn- it's like they have anti-bodies to acquiring knowledge from experiences
That tired old canard hasn't worked in the past- and it won't work any better in the future- though due to all the dysfunctional pandering to the corporate right and alienation of traditional constituencies- it may be about all the Democrats have in the fall.

And if that's the case, Obama's obsession with bipartisan fantasies will become a reality. Hope he likes what he gets.
