MANCHESTER — The Teamsters Union has started a memorial fund for families of the victims of the Hartford Distributors shooting with a $50,000 donation.

International Brotherhood of Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa announced Wednesday the establishment of the Teamsters Local 1035 Hartford Distributors Memorial Fund.

Seven of the nine people killed Tuesday were Teamsters members. An employee who resigned after being confronted with videotapes showing him stealing beer opened fire at the Chapel Road warehouse and offices on Tuesday, Aug. 3.

Donations may be sent to: Teamsters Local 1035 Hartford Distributors Memorial Fund, c/o Teamsters Local Union 1035, 400 Chapel Road, 2-B, South Windsor, CT 06074.

* Meanwhile, one of the company’s customers, Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant in Windsor, will hold a fundraiser through August.

The restaurant, which does business with Hartford Distributors, will donate 50 cents for each tall beer sold to a fund established to help the victims’ families, restaurant representative Sarah Morin said.

“While there are no words to appropriately convey the support we wish to provide them, we offer the gesture of raising funds for the victims’ families in the wake of their tremendous loss,” Morin said.

Memorial service

Manchester has scheduled an interdominational memorial service for Tuesday, Aug. 10, a week after the incident. The service will be held at 6:30 p.m. North United Methodist Church, 300 Parker St.

Town officials are expected to attend.
