even come into question the fact that we even needed an act of Congress to care for the 9/11 responders is a shame on us all, but to this Stewart said it I GIVE UP

4. The Democrats forcing a 2/3rds requirement on the 9/11 responders bill was a WTF moment for me
and I learned it last night on The Daily Show.

frustrating as all hell. :bandhead:

9. I Guess I GIVE UP TOO! Oh Wait I Think I've Already Done It! Not ENOUGH
WORDS are in "Websters" for me to begin to say what I'm feeling!

But, just so I'm PERFECTLY CLEAR here, did the Democrats just basically KILL a BILL for political cover this fall?? Am I CLEAR on this, and IF NOT, please explain to me what I'm missing!!

Why the rant Weiner?? Why 2/3rds, I don't get it, really I DON'T!!

22. It almost seems the rant from Weiner, which was much lauded here-
was all for show, and he knew it.

7. Democrats wanted a clean bill and one of those "up or down" votes
The Republicans refused to consider the bill without larding it up with pork for their pet projects, and when they couldn't get their greedy mitts into the federal cookie jar again, the Republicans decided the heroes of September 11 could go hang.

10. Why would anyone vote no against the bill?
I don't have a problem with the 2/3rds. It's abhorent that someone would vote against it.

14. I have a problem with the 2/3rds because they KNEW that that would ensure the bills defeat
thus they didn't care about the 9/11 responders, and they care far more about preserving tax havens for multinationals.

18. Who cares about preserving tax havens for multinationals?
The people that voted for it or against it? You think there's some plot by Democrats to protect multinationals by not letting the republicans amend the bill? That makes no sense.

20. Would it be OK to allow the Cons to amend bill to disallow
help to first responders who might have been "illegal." Those first responders can just forget about getting any help for the illness they suffer due to their willingness to help Americans in a time of crisis?

To me, thats a deal breaker and I'm glad the Dems didn't fall for it.

21. The Dem fear was that with a simple majority the pubs would put in...
...riders that would ban illegal aliens from being covered and that would make the democratic Hispanic caucus take a hike on the bill. So it fails either way and it's the pubs' fault either way. So the Dems went 2/3rds to insure an up or down vote on a clean bill and make sure there was no question which party was against it. And it would have worked, too, if not for those meddling kids and their stupid dog.

I guarantee you they do.

23. that's not why they did it...corporate interests don't care what the 9/11 responders get
what Dems fear is the votes on Republican amendments, for example, The "I love puppies" amendment which would provide $100 billion for Frechmen to buy quiche". Dems don't want commercials run against them saying, "he hates puppies, how un-American!".

but i think they should take their lumps and just help the 9/11 responders and put the Republicans that offer amendments on notice that their embarassing amendments will be used in commercials against them.

19. Giving up
is what the most wealthy want us to do.

I might lose big time in the end and it won't be because of lack of trying.

I'll give up when I'm six feet under.
