Conservative justification: a child would think like I do!
I just heard an NPR news report about the overturning of the anti-gay-marriage Proposition 8 in California. They had a quote from a conservative protester that really floored me. He said, "This is something that is obvious even to a child, that a kid needs a father and a mother." (slight paraphrase)

Think about this for a moment. This guy is justifying his bigoted beliefs by saying that a child would agree with him. Is this really the best way to convince people that your opinion is well-considered and informed by wisdom? By saying that a 4-year-old would agree?

Well, shucks. It is "obvious" to most 4-year-olds that they should be fed ice cream and candy for dinner every night. Would this conservative therefore advocate that practice as well?

4. Me too, as I said before......
Ever notice whenever the champions of "down home common sense" get their hands on a country we get shit like Pol Pot and Mao Zedong (Though he was educated).

3. I just heard that, too.
"Ill-considered", "ignorant", "self-righteous" comes to mind. "Obvious" does not. Children have an excuse. This bozo, not so much...

5. Since many "conservatives" demonstrate moral preconventional reasoning
I'm not sure why this would surprise anyone.

Most Republicans and all too many Democrats do in fact think like children.

7. I heard that article
I'm sure a child would think like the speaker, but children grow up, unlike most conservatives, repubs, and fundies.
