And you ask yourself, in what Universe did all the oil just go away?
The oil is gone. The earth and the skies and the waters magically reabsorbed it. And do you know why that is. Because if there is no oil then there is no need for fines. If the oil doesn't exist any more then it never existed, no harm, no foul. And if you think you remember oil then you are wrong, because its all gone and so it may as well never have been here. So go away, and sit down, and be quiet. Oh, and if you are a gulf coast fisherman, or if you had vacation plans and cancelled them, or if you are the owner of a rental home on one of the gulf beaches ... well, go fuck yourself, because there is no oil, there wasn't ever any oil, there never will be any oil. Oil is good, and don't you forget it.

This is the message. Get on message. End of message.

2. A bit of hypebole?
The data they are presenting suggests that 50% is "still there". The question that needs to be continually asked is not "where did it go" but "where is it".

Amazing isn't it?

The corporate media will take the ball and run with it. The oil is completely gone. No problems at all.

5. Several points
1.- Who said fines are gone?

2.- OIL DOES DEGRADE.... those of us who even understood this explained this at the beginning of the mess.

3.- Even if 2\3 degraded, was picked up, was burned... you still have MORE OIL on the gulf than the Valdez. Good news, water is warmer, so the recovery will be faster.

4.- Some folks have lost their livelihood, not getting 'round that.

Are people round these place so science averse or ignorant? Granted. I admit, even the tv machine is doing that crap. People simply do NOT understand science. So we are going to phase two of magical thinking.

Oh and a few of the effects to the ecosystem will not be known for upwards of ten years.

8. There's still oil in Prince William Sound 21 years later.
http://www.themudflats.net/2010/07/06/walking-with-the-ghost-of-exxon/

Granted, the Gulf is a different environment, but there was also many times more oil poured into it than was spilled in Prince William Sound. There is a coverup of massive proportions going on here if the govt and BP are saying that the oil is "gone."
