I love taking conservatives' money and all...
But the number of conservative ads I'm seeing on DU lately is a little weird. Now, I know how online ads work, and in this case the ad server is just looking at the words on the page and finding ads that match those words. So when I talk about Massachusetts, I get ads for Charlie Baker and Tim Cahill (the R and turncoat D-turned-I running for governor here). Or in a thread about taxes, I see the League of American voters' "Keep the Bush Tax Cuts" ad.

Now, like my title said, this in itself doesn't bother me: conservatives are wasting their money on ads that will get them 0 support, and that money is supporting DU. That's awesome, actually. But why are there so many more conservative ads online than liberal ads? Where are Deval Patrick's ads (he's the D in the MA race; the incumbent)? Where's the ad from a liberal pack about undoing Bush's reckless Paris Hilton tax cuts? Where's the teachers' unions ads about opposing the expansion of charter schools? It's not just DU; I don't see them anywhere, and I do see the conservative ads in a lot of places. Have we gone from owning online ads to surrendering them in 2 years?

1. Advertising is for conservatives
To sway somebody by emotion is the essence of both conservative politicking and advertising. Maybe Democratic dollars are going into message and content, like videos, community organizing, and issue advocacy.

2. Are you sure there are more conservative ads than liberal ads?
You need to click through DU and for each page you bring up, note the number of each type of ad: conservative, liberal, and non-partisan. After 10 or 20 minutes of this, add them all up and report back to this thread.

3. It's mostly ads for Christiane Amanpour today
The context-sensitive ads I got were:

4 for "Keep the Bush Tax cuts"
2 for Tim Pawlenty's PAC
1 for a pro-health-care reform push in Cleveland (which I think happened last year)
and then the rest were non-political (Hampton Inn, Binder & Binder disability lawyers, "Get your free list of banks that are doomed to fail", etc.)

6 to 1, and that one seemingly way out of date, is troubling.
