I love the irony of product names. Take Corexit
Please :rimshot:

Sorry. Inappropriate joke.

Corexit. Sounds just like "corrects it". Fixes it. Makes it all better. Cool, huh?

A much better name than ..... oh, I dunno ....... 2-butoxyethanol, huh? Or propylene glycol. Or sorbitan, butanedioic acid, and petroleum distillates. That all sounds so nasty.

Corrects It.

Muuuuuch better.

Don't worry, its only 20 times more toxic that at least 12 other similar products. Of course, its made by a subsidiary of . . . . ready for it? . . . . . BP and Exxon.

You know BP and Exxon. The former had a little "whoopsie" out in the Gulf. And the latter was given the green light by the White House to take over the former should that whoopsie prove too much for the fat bank account.

Corrects It.

I like that. Sounds so nice and benign.

1. I've been saying this since I first heard the name
You lay it out beautifully here, though.

I also find the name of my mother's sleeping pill quite ironic, too. It's called Restoril. She swears it's named that because you either rest or your ill.

2. Uneeda Biscuit started the whole thing, I think.
We should have nipped it in the bud back then.

3. Not a product but a corporate change of name...
Philip Morris is now known as Altria (kinda evokes 'altruism,' dontcha think?). Has any corporation - especially one that made its fortune from the addiction and death of so many of its customers - ever been *less* deserving of a name that attempts to conjure an image of altruism?

5. It's wonderful, isn't it. "Alt" = lofty or high, and "tria" sounds musical --
so how could a company with this name be engaged mainly in selling you a product which, used exactly as intended, will cause you grave illness and early death???

4. My first take on it was slightly different. . .

Corexit- brought to you by those short sighted selfish ogres masquerading as human beings who vacated their core values (inclusive of reverence for the planet and basic human decency) a very, very, very long time ago. As if they were ever remotely cognizant of said values or even had them in the first place.

Ughhh

However, your take is in truth more in keeping with all the thoroughly "disingenuous nomenclature" of the torturous *years. Ya know, "Clear skies," "Healthy Forests," "extraordinary rendition" and the ever purposeful and ever so endearing "Help (hack) America Vote," (the gift that keeps on giving) . . .etc. . .

b.s.

Yikes & :hi:

6. My guess is they spent ALOT of time and money developing that name
It's no accident that it sounds like "corrects it."
