Bush meets with Dobson to rally support for Iran plan
http://rawstory.com/news/2007/Bush_meets_with_Dobson_Christian_right_0514.html

President George W. Bush met privately with Focus on the Family Founder and Chairman James Dobson and approximately a dozen Christian right leaders last week to rally support for his policies on Iraq, Iran and the so-called "war on terror."

“I was invited to go to Washington DC to meet with President Bush in the White House along with 12 or 13 other leaders of the pro-family movement," Dobson disclosed on his radio program Monday. “And the topic of the discussion that day was Iraq, Iran and international terrorism. And we were together for 90 minutes and it was very enlightening and in some ways disturbing too."

Details of the meeting were disclosed by Dobson during Monday's edition of his Focus on the Family radio program.

Dobson described Bush as “upbeat and determined and convinced,” adding, “I wish the American people could have sat in on that meeting we had.”

Dobson went on to enumerate a series of meetings convened by Christian right leaders in Washington to discuss the supposedly existential threat to the United States from a nuclear Iran.

stark raving mad. This is insane on so many levels.

5. Uh-huh! A fine x-tian who refused to meet with the elders of his own church.
Edited on Mon May-14-07 06:06 PM by BeHereNow
Anyone remember when the Methodist elders requested a meeting
with Bush?
They were concerned with his twisting of scripture and use of the same
to drum up support for his war.
He basically ignored their request.
Yep, he's a mighty fine x-tian.

10. that's why he meets with the Dobson wing...they'd rather die than disagree with...
...our manly man president, who gets messages directly from God, who tells him to go to war.
he will never meet, say, with a Catholic group....they oppose the death penalty and he wallows in it like a pig in mud...

6. That's what I'd like to know as well.
And these so-called "pro life Christians" need to take a good, long look at themselves in the mirror. They are HYPOCRITES. The Bible says nothing about killing to prevent terrorism, killing to protect others, etc., it merely says that killing others is wrong.

Sickening.

The last time church and state got together, there were hangings of innocent people in the Town Square!

18. Make sure you put that "pro-life" in quotes
I am pro-life because I believe it is wrong to drop bombs on innocent civilians in Iraq.

I am pro-life because I oppose the death penalty.

I am pro-life because I believe that no American should ever have to suffer a slow painful death because they were not able to afford health care.

I am pro-life because I oppose torture.

I am pro-life because I oppose cutting welfare benefits to people who are already unable to provide for their basic human needs.

I am pro-life because I want to protect the environment and stop global warming.

And I am pro-life because I believe that no woman should ever have to risk her life by performing a delicate medical procedure with a coat-hanger.

Today we live in a world in which words are spun to make those who slaughter innocent Iraqi children appear to be pro-life. We live in a world in which we are told our so-called President has been spreading freedom and democracy around the world while ignoring the fact that this "President" was only able to take office through electoral fraud. We live in a world where up is down, black is white, and pro-torture is pro-life. We live in a world of illusions.

It is time that we see through those illusions, and start speaking the truth. We must take back our language and insist that pro-life does not mean anti-choice, it means anti-war. It means standing up for basic human rights, it means standing up for the poor the oppressed and the innocent civilians who lie in the paths of the war ships.

It is those of us who stand up to protect a woman's right to choose to have a delicate medical procedure done in a safe environment who are pro-life not those who want to go back to the days of the coat hanger.

So yes I am pro-life, and I have a feeling you are too.

4. War is SO pro-family.
Just ask the families of the soldiers who have been killed or injured in Iraq, or all those Iraqi families who don't have husbands, fathers, wives, children, jobs or homes any more.

8. When you are down to 28% support all you have left is the loony tune contingent.
Bush can't meet with people who matter because they all hate his rotten ass by now. Freepers and fundies is all he has left.

9. Agree! the far right fanatics instil in their sheep how
Christians ("over there-you know in those countries")are praying for the USA to stop them from being prosecuted- dragged out of their homes raped and murdered etc. This was what the Libety University Grad I work with told me- (mostly she meant Iraq and Afghanistan- which of course had very little in common actually). "Someone has to put a stop to it"
Now I guess they are being told that the evil Iranians plan to come attack us, so god wants us to smite them first.

But mostly it's the lack of basic intelligence.

Neither is bright enough to pour piss out of a

boot with the instructions printed on the heel.

17. Bush will never meet with leaders of his church, the United Methodists, who oppose his war in Iraq.
Church leaders come out against war in Iraq, Feb 2003

1. As European church leaders, in consultation with councils of churches in the USA and the Middle East, we remain extremely concerned with the continued calls for military action against Iraq by the US and some European governments. As people of faith, our love of neighbour compels us to oppose war and to seek peaceful resolution of conflicts. As churches we pray for peace and freedom, justice and safety for the people of Iraq and in the Middle East as a whole. Such prayer obliges us to be instruments of peace.

2. We deplore the fact that the most powerful nations of this world again regard war as an acceptable instrument of foreign policy. This creates an international culture of fear, threat and insecurity.

3. We cannot accept the stated objectives of a war against Iraq, as laid out by these governments, in particular the US. Pre-emptive military strike and war as a means to change the regime of a sovereign state are immoral and in violation of the UN Charter. We appeal to the Security Council to uphold the principles of the UN Charter which strictly limit the legitimate use of military force and to refrain from creating negative precedence and lowering the threshold for using violent means to solve international conflicts.

4. We believe that military force is an inappropriate means to achieve disarmament of any Iraqi weapons of mass destruction. We insist that the carefully designed mechanisms of the UN weapons inspections be given the time needed to complete their work.

23. This was a Rove-induced propaganda meeting....
Rove has to use the political tools that still work, and the leaders of the RW Conservative Fundamentalists still have some clout with their sheep-like followers --at least for the moment.

Doesn't everyone expect that the President would use the country's RW Conservative Fundamentalists Leaders as his sounding board for foreign policy decisions?

25. EXACTLY why the only remaining Bush/Cheney stickers are seen
on vehicles with the Christian fish - at least it seems that way in my area...

It's just so twisted the way the GOP has used and manipulated the most malleable elements of the faithful, allowing them to shape their world view into something that doesn't resemble my own personal view of what Christianity represents in the slightest.
