Sometimes its hard to bite your tongue.
Edited on Thu Jul-29-10 02:22 PM by Xicano
Its hard being the only liberal and informed person in my family. While some in my family take liberal positions on issues, however, unfortunately, they take more conservative views on many issues too. Also, no one else in my family bothers to read and therefore are just your typical not so informed average American. Good hearted are all my family members and I love them all, but, I wish they would read. Oh, also, I am the only one in my family who doesn't prescribe to religious dogma.

Anyway here's an example of a post one of my family members posted else where on the net. Sigh, sometimes its hard to bite my tongue.

WELCOME TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA...Please remember only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you..JESUS CHRIST and the AMERICAN SOLDIER. One died for your soul, the other for your freedom. GOD BLESS THE USA!!!

Jump in! Be bold

3. With ya on that. I dread my upcoming family reunion . . .
Virtually everyone there is a Fox-besotted neocon. On and on about The Evil Obama, etc. :puke:

How do you say, "I love you, but your views are totally fucked up?"

5. What I don't get is . . .
. . . most of them are from "blue" Massachusetts. What's with that?

I'm liberal partly BECAUSE I spent so much time in Mass growing up.

8. Being from California and growing up in the 70's I have the same thoughts as well.
But at the same time they all live in Orange County while I live in Los Angeles County. LOL.. Maybe that's it.. Oh well, who knows...

6. Write them back and say
"Check your computer for malware. Your last post had something so mind-bogglingly stupid attached to it that it's difficult to reconcile that with the fact that you can work a computer."

7. Ask them how any American soldier since 1945 has actually died for "our freedoms".
Edited on Thu Jul-29-10 03:28 PM by arbusto_baboso
Then tell them that a former American soldier and decorated combat veteran (me) has said that NOTHING the US military has done since WWII has had fuck-all to do with American freedom, only with American economic hegemony.

10. Exactly, and I was also thinking....
What about all the people from other countries who've died fighting in our wars? What about all those folks who put their bodies in front of dangerous equipment to protect our environment and wildlife? What about those who gave their lives in the labor movements to give our country better working conditions? What about those who gave their lives in the civil rights movements to give our country more equality? What about law enforcement officers, fire fighters and search & rescue personal who risk their lives on the behalf of fellow countrymen? Just a few examples..

11. Civil servants of ALL kinds put their lives on the line for the public.
Both in the literal sense (remember an unemployment office massacre in Cali a number of years ago?), and in the sense of the huge number of civil servants who die from stress-related illnesses, usually before they've been retired for more than a year.

Seriously, thank you for your post AND your military service. I will remember what you said and repeat it.

9. Replly with this....

14. If you really want to stir up the shit.....
tell them that you believe the ACLU has done more to protect American freedoms than any person in uniform ever has.

I use this one with the hard cases whose minds I'll never change, simply because it's too damn fun watching their heads explode!

16. mine are informed. they are just informed by fox news. talk about a pain in the ass
they have an innate sense that news cannot lie. it isnt allowed on tv as a lie. so obviously what fox is saying is the truth. they think they are doing their job being informed. they dont get that they are being lied to

yours is easy, the uninformed.
