18. It's a lot harder to convince people to reelect ineffectual management.
They sure do want to make it hard for us to elect dems. Now we will have to throw way more blood and treasure at this stupid political process to protect ourselves from the utter wrongheadedness of whackos like Sharron Angle.

24. What have the Democrats done that has not effected the economy?
Every bill they have passed so far has had an impact upon the economy. Without them the entire financial industry would have collapsed. IMO the only place they have really strayed on the economic front is maintaining the occupations of both Iraq and Afghanistan.

19. "y'all is singular. But I wouldn't expect you to know that. "
Edited on Tue Jul-27-10 11:24 PM by Bobbie Jo
Not where I come from, but don't take my word for it.

There are currently four generally recognized properties that "y'all" follows<3>:

1.A replacement for the plural of you.
Example: "Y'all can use the internet at the same time."
2.An associative plural, including individuals associated but not present with the singular addressee.
Example: "Y'all can come over at around 10:30," Chris says.
Chris explains to John that he and John's friends, who are not present at the time, can come over at around 10:30. Chris is speaking to John, but treats John as a representative for others.
3.An institutional plural addressed to one person representing a group.
Example: "Y'all sell the best candies, Mrs. Johnson."
Y'all is received by Mrs. Johnson who is the representative of a small candy business.
4.A form used in direct address in certain contexts (e.g., partings, greetings, invitations, and vocatives)
Example: "Hey, y'all!"
A greeting that addresses a multitude of people without referencing a singular identity comprising that multitude

20. Guess it's different in Indiana where you're from accd'ing to your profile -
I live in Texas.

But attempts to change the subject by focusing on minutia rather than the subject at hand are not surprising.

You brought it up. "check the tense."

25. No it was the other guy who wanted to take the focus off the economy -
but yes I should've spell-checked. That I'll accept. Will you accept that we need to focus on the economy? Help out the folks who are out of work (whether it's y'all or all y'all...).

Focusing on style over substance is not going to help the teachers who have been laid-off, the seniors who are worried about their social security & prescriptions, and the young folks graduating to a country with 20% unemployment.

PS - And I do have a fondness from KY so we can at least agree on that - spent some time in Louisville and the countryside was beautiful.
