Another Breitbart Pal Skeered of Teh Negroes
Edited on Tue Jul-27-10 03:09 PM by EFerrari
Last Sunday on Face the Nation, Bush appointee to the US Commission on Civil Rights Abigail Thernstrom put the so called New Black Panthers voter intimidation case to rest in the media: there is no evidence of voter intimidation and no evidence that the Obama DoJ acted improperly in its handling of that case. This after nearly seven months of the right wing Noise Machine instigating fits about scary black men intimidating white voters (no evidence it happened) and claiming that Holders DoJ refused to prosecute black offenders (didnt happen, the Bush DoJ made that call).

Its interesting that, while Ms. Thernstroms comments where picked up in the mainstream media, and while those stories all mentioned the Shirley Sherrod case somewhere, none of them pointed out that the origin of the New Black Panthers story was also a Breitbart pal and Big Government blogger, Mike Roman.

I havent been able to find out if Roman actually shot the video that he posted to his election protection site, electionjournal.org and that was taken up by the right wing Noise Machine so lustily. But his website is the one that hosted it. It is the site that is referenced in the media and in the Congressional Record in the ensuing investigation. In fact, Mike Romans whole site (and especially his donations page) is built around the image of the two New Black Panthers on Election Day 2008 in Philly. I dont know if Mike actually sells dog whistles but his donations page features a graphic with the title Kick election fraud in the nuts that shows a figure kicking up at a huge acorn.

If you have tracked election and voting news on a daily basis, you could quickly come to the conclusion that the site was set up to showcase this story. Most people dont realize that there are at least 15 to 20 important stories in the election reform world every day. Real election reform advocates, like the late and revered John Gideon at VotersUnite, track these stories and offer them to the public for their information and to establish trends that committed activists need to know. Romans site does nothing of the sort. In fact, his one attempt at internationalism is a story about the last Colombian election which misspells Colombia. Raw Story noted (Conservatives Using Sketchy Videos; 01/19/10), that while Romans site doesnt list an affiliation, he is a former GOP operative that only seems to find stories beneficial to the GOP.

To sum up: this storefront website of a Breitbart pal was the source for the entire New Black Panthers voter intimidation case that was based on zero (0) voter complaints and for which the Obama DoJ was smeared with unequal protection even though it was the Bush DoJ that decided there was nothing there.

And yet, this video was set out for the right wing Noise Machine to find, which it did as it finds all the breitbartian bits of video that call up white racist fear and it got all the way to a congressional investigation. Before you know it, John Fund is on Face the Nation accusing the Obama administration of racializing the Justice Department for political gain and without a trace of irony, considering that the Bush administration was built on the backs of disenfranchised black voters twice, once in Florida and once in Ohio. Someone should sit John Fund down and read him the story of the wooden puppet that yearned to become a real boy, seriously, for his own good.

That this particular piece of breitbartia sputtered out probably wont prevent Mike Roman from investigating again since fake stories of voter fraud are an old Republican weakness. He was not quite as involved as that other Breitbart pal, James OKeefe, in smearing ACORN but his did his bit, sponsoring online petitions and posting slanderous stories to his website -- ACORN hiring registered sex offenders to forge registrations in New Mexico. And in particular, since Roman hearts Rubio on his Face Book page, Id suggest that anyone working the Florida Senate race be on the lookout for watchdogs in largely black precincts on Election Day.

1. Kick and Rec
Especially for the last sentence. You make a fair point - and we need folks on the ground to assist in the mostly black precincts on election day. We need video cameras most of all . . .

and how we can counter them, imho. We know we need to protect minority precincts.

9. There's not much more get-up-and-go in the old Southern Strategy,
but they are doing their best. It's in part why they created the teabagger movement, to gather up the last vestiges of the Republican Party's once "greatest achievement": marshalling naked hatred and pure idiocy as a political force. Maybe the teabaggers believed all that "kinder, gentler" right wing crap and needed to be brought back into the fold with a fresh injection of hate and blind resentment.

I've missed you, babycakes2000! :loveya:

in the mainstream

between the early 70s and 2008, racists and other bigots were expected to at least put some sort of thin veneer of law and order or other such crap over their ugliness.

but you actually have MSM outlets pondering whether or not muslims should be able build houses of worship where they wish

IN AMERICA!

Jon Stewart put it perfectly,

are puerto ricans ruining your property values? should the irish be allowed to vote?

Hardball is covering NBP story at the top of the show today. Smerconish wants DOJ investigated, Matthews is calling the story "Right wing 'swirl'." Smerconish takes seriously the BS claims of the former conservative embed at DOJ who, while admitting he has no firsthand knowledge of what happened, alleges the Obama DOJ acted based on politics (even though the decision finding 'no evidence' was under the Bush DOJ).

Fox keeps pushing the story because it allows them to keep showing the video from two years ago of the two 'scary' black guys. The count I saw last week was that they had already run the video 23 times...

And Raw Story did a good rundown on how partisan his fake site is. But the hinge is his breitbartiness. Without that, no one in Congress would have been citing that video.

And I'm betting he's associated with Morton Blackwell's Leadership Institute/Campus Reform gang. Both James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles of ACORN fame got schooled in sneaky tricks there. I would venture that if you peeled the skin off electionjournal dot whatever, you'd find Blackwell's hideous face underneath.

EDIT ADD: And I bet nobody asked who called the videographer from electionjournal.

Abigail Thernstrom, now that's a name with a history. She was one of the apologists for the theft of Election 2000 in Florida, a real piece of work.

In the videos I've seen of him defending this, he's awfully defensive to the point of losing control. If I've got the
goods and people challenge me, I'm going to be the calmest guy on the block (typically). Why? Because I've got the
goods. He wasn't close to calm.

44. He should lie low
It's very hard to sue a reporter if you're a public figure. You have to prove knowing malice with intent to harm the public figure. In the case of Sherrod, that may be possible. Did Breitbart have the competence to know the difference between a distortion and an accurate portrayal of Sherrod's speech? Without a doubt. No problem. Did he have the intention formed to lie about her position to cause her harm? I don't know how that's established in these trials but it's fair to assume that to be the case. If a decent law firm takes up Sherrod's case, that's a signal that they think they have the goods. Brietbart better stay low, like below the border ;) Belize maybe.
