Did BP replace Hayward with an American for PR reasons?
Wouldn't surprise me a bit. Anyone else?

2. PR isn't always the "bad guy"
Some firms actually show companies how to do the right thing. Most of those are stealth in their operations, and you probably never even heard of them.

3. So far, everything they've done has been to save themselves
money, boost their image while trying to avoid liability, hide the truth from our people. Sounds like they hired the wrong company.

9. I agree...
Clearly the PR they were following is nowhere near stealth, and nowhere near doing the right thing for the sake of doing the right thing.

12. Just heard this is the first time in history of BP
that an American has held the position.

5. But BP is the bad guy.
I'll believe that this makes a practical turn for the better when I see it.

8. Where did anyone say this was a practical turn for the better?
Why interject something like that?

4. I think this falls into the category of "DUH"
Have him leave in October once the leak is fixed. It will help BP "turn the page", say it will never happen again under our new guy, and hope people correlate the disaster in perpetuity with Hayward instead of BP.

Won't work, but I think it's the best PR strategy they've got.

7. Most likely
they want to divest themselves of all interests in the USA and separate off BP America from the parent. That issue was mentioned back in May. I'd assume Murphy will then go home. So - that's the most likely background. BP are also boxing clever because they are re-identifying the problem with the USA just by using his accent. Ha Ha to anyone who to tried to spin the issue by calling them British Petroleum.

The reason Hayward will probably go to Russia is to help protect the relationship in the joint venture there. The Russians ran Dudley out of town a while back and a risk arose of the jv breaking up.
