Franken: Republicans ‘Don’t Want People To Get Jobs Before The Election’
Franken: Republicans ‘Don’t Want People To Get Jobs Before The Election’ »

...................

In a clear example of Republicans trying to “slow things down,” the Washington Post notes today that the Senate GOP — along with a few conservative Democrats — “have blocked measures that would offer summer jobs to teenagers, give aid to states to prevent layoffs of teachers and other state employees, and expand funding of Pell grants — arguing that all would raise the budget deficit.” Franken attributed their obstruction to crass partisan motives:

FRANKEN: And Republicans sort of take this stance that the best thing we can do is slow everything down so as little can happen as possible, so that we can both blame Democrats for not having stuff happen, like jobs bills and stuff like that. And so that, you know, I mean sometimes it’d be a legitimate difference of opinion on something, but sometimes it’s been ridiculous. But I do think that this whole approach of slowing everything down, in many ways I think it’s so that, they don’t want a jobs bill because they don’t want people to get jobs before the election. It’s a harsh thing to say, and I don’t want to impugn the motives of my colleagues, but I don’t get what they’re doing otherwise.

2. The republicans probably are slowing it down just because they can,
But I fail to see how getting teenagers summer jobs, preserving teachers jobs, and expanding funding to pell grants (which is a good idea) will help the unemployed that currently are desperate for work...

4. well, since Little Boots has one of the worse jobs creation record
I'd say repugs could care less about creating jobs after the election. What I see is a bunch of sick, self serving feckers, who could care less about the well-being of this country or the well-being of the people in this country. It's all about them--they'd hurt us, starve us just to make an extra buck and gain more political power--fekk'em, fekk'em all.

6. of course they don't want Democrats to provide jobs
they can run on this and that is what they are doing. BUT darn it, it is up the Democrats to play up the fact that every jobs bill proposed the republicans use the senate's out of date rules to block it.
