4. is it what we think should happen or will happen?
I think all cuts will be kept. They can't let low or mid-income taxes go up. And they can't get the votes to extend those without extending all of them.

I think they should analyze each tax type & level individually and extend some, change some +/-, and let some expire.

2. Let the tax cuts expire for everybody, and then give tax cuts to the middle class and the poor.
Call these tax cuts, "The Obama tax cuts."

9. Problem with that....
not enough dems in congress have the balls to do it.

13. Obama already gave tax cuts to these people
and got zero credit. Heck most teabaggers think he raised their taxes. It's sort of a tough position. If he allows taxes on the middle class to increase he will get blamed for it, if he keeps them from increasing but raises them on the rich, people will say he raised everyones taxes. Finally if he cuts everyone taxes even the rich and corporations, he will be called pro tax. In other words Dems should just do the right thing since they never get political credit for making progressive changes to the tax code.

3. #1, with reservations.

Frankly, I find it insulting that the RW has captured and corrupted the dialogue. It goes without saying that the obscene and kleptocraptic tax cuts for the rich need not only EXPIRE but... The top marginal rate on ALL income (including capital) need to go back to the pre-Reagan levels.

As for the tax cuts for the regular working Americans... "Tax cuts" is a red herring and a classical republican meme; working people should demand social justice and basic SOCIAL rights that the rest of the civilized world takes for granted (such as health care, pensions, etc.), not some ridiculous "tax cuts".

6. The non-rich (if $250K is rich) fuel the economy
there is no proof that cuts for the top do anything for the economy. None, ever.

7. this is a perfect example of how bad our messaging is
people like tax cuts

Allowing the discussion to be about the "Bush tax cuts" expiring or being extended is counterproductive. They are set to end and even talking about extending them is a mistake.

We should all be attacking everything W. and not discussing an extension of these cuts. Every time the subject comes us the response needs to be "The Republican tax structure is what has wasted huge surpluses and exploded our debt while destroying our economy and costing Americans their jobs".

The answer to the question "will the Bush tax cuts be extended?" must be a resounding "No, we are replacing them with a new tax structure that makes sense".

Our message should be that we have a package of Obama/Democratic tax cuts that will take effect the day the Shrub ones finally sunset. (If a few new breaks for lower income groups were included that would be even better for MSM coverage and talking points.)

We need to be talking about a Democratic tax structure that will grow our economy and help average Americans. We need the media to be talking about our tax cuts so we gain political points instead of constantly giving those points to our opponents.

This puts the (R) into a position of voting for the Obama/Democratic tax structure or for voting against tax cuts. I would love to see what they do when placed in that position.

12. Roll back the tax "cuts" for the tax dodging rich
...back to where they were during the Eisenhower administration.

At the very least, the Reagan tax "cuts" need to go. (along with all the other shitty economic policies of the last 30 years)

15. Conservatives/Teabaggers want to make the Bush tax cuts permanent
Which flies in the face of their hypocritical demands for President Obama and his administration to address spending and to reduce the federal deficit.

But they also want to continue and increase funding for the military and homeland defense. So obviously they are attempting to force the federal government to concentrate solely on reducing or better still, completely eliminating spending on our nation's infrastructure (privatize it) as well as social services for the poor, minorities, unemployed, uninsured, and disabled/disadvantaged. Since most of those who would be directly affected vote for Democrats, this would also dramatically reduce the amount of money donated through campaign contributions to Democratic candidates for offices, as well as greatly lower Democratic ticket voter turnouts.

A win-win solution for Republicans and their mostly racist rightwing constituents.
