"Let’s treat Breitbart like the toxic tantrum he is"-shun him

The End of Andrew Breitbart

I understand why Breitbart has Jonathan Chait, among others, up in arms about conservative pseudo-journalism. But what I find disheartening about this Andrew Breitbart business isn’t what it says so much about conservative journalism as about the sorry state of journalism period. Not the way it’s practiced (or malpracticed) by any one group or individual, but how the very notion of journalism as a real profession, with even minimal standards of conduct and ethics, has evaporated.

Breitbart’s decision to run with the video was without question appalling. But there have always been madmen, charlatans, and assholes in this business. Arguably more outrageous is that, even having been exposed as either a total scumbag or a fool, he will almost certainly suffer no serious or lasting repercussions.

snip//

So what am I hoping will happen here? I’m not entirely sure. Journalists are, obviously, not doctors or lawyers or plumbers. You don’t need a license, or even a highly specialized set of knowledge, to practice the craft. But neither should the profession sit back while some raving yahoo, just for kicks, shreds what’s left of industry standards and practices—or, worse yet, enhance the guy’s fame by letting him babble on for the amusement of chat show audiences. With someone like Breitbart, all exposure is good exposure.

So maybe what’s called for here is a good old fashioned shunning. Let’s treat Breitbart like the toxic tantrum he is: no more profiles or interviews or linkages to his web site, even in the service of condemning him.

Yeah. I know. That makes this post kinda problematic. But how else to get the word out? Now, I swear, not another word from me about you-know-who.

1. The more we pay attention to Breitbart, the more we're lending him credibility.

2. We have to shine the light on these liars and make them pay a price.
Disinformation isn't acceptable.

5. I'm with you.
We can ignore this all we want, but it just means that our nation of permanent "undecideds" will hear the lies go unanswered and assume that they're true.

4. Stop letting him be on tv. Of course, that is up to the big corps that run cable news.

6. Just watched another interview on MSNBC where the "real journalist" claimed..
That Breitbart was the same blogger who "exposed corruption at ACORN".

All lazy media needs to be shunned.

7. "All lazy media needs to be shunned"
Yes, but it needs to be shunned by exactly those people that it fools.

Until we can talk them into shunning it, it needs to be fought.

8. This is the first time I have ever disagreed with you 'sister. We need to stay on top of

him until we know everything about his funding pipeline - Name of foundation or bank or check signer/author.

We need to stay on top of him until a law suit sticks and goes to and comes out of court with the facts. Not that we can file the suit, but we need to follow everything he touches from Landriau to Acorn to Sherrod. We need to stay ahead of him. He will take a couple of weeks and there will be another event and it will be aired through Fox and freaks.

He must be exposed to his teabagging supporters to a point that they will get it through their heads. Somewhere in their human body is a wire that can connect a dot or two.

They will be poor with us and we have to admit that we are all going to be in doo-doo together. Many of those non-thinkers have more in common with the poor on this side. There will be no wall, maybe just low walls on everything to do with survival.

The lesson of Sherrod was no wall for black and white - it's about the poor.

The lesson for us (hopefully) is about no Party wall between us - it will be about struggling together.

They will get it.

First we find out and expose Breitbart's $ support.

One thing we can do is not click on his site.

9. Yep.
Aggressive discovery until all the layers of the onion are peeled off and exposed. I hope Shirley is up to it.

She wants to fight racism? Well, she's got a golden opportunity to expose these fuckers.

No mercy.

11. I already do.
I've never read a single word he wrote, or listened to a single word he's said, or even seen a picture.

If DU wasn't talking about him, I wouldn't know he exists.

That holds true for all other media talking heads of any kind.

12. boycott his sponsors,
what we need to do is boycott his sponsors, like we did Beck's. Write them and tell they why. I haven't been able to find a list though. I will be working on this today.
