There is a bird that seems to be stuck in a Pathmark I frequent for lunch
I noticed it 3 days ago , and today it occurred to me the poor little bird has no idea how to get out of the store. It just keeps flying in circles just under the ceiling .

I approached the store employees , and they had a lackluster attitude, like "so what? "

Unless I really don't understand avian behaviour, the poor thing is going to keep flying in circles until it dies of exhaustion .

What can I do ? I just can't sit , work , continue my day with the awareness that an animal is suffering and is going to die unless I or someone else does something.

Is there a number to call ? I am thinking of buying a net and trying to capture the creature , but I am afraid the net is going to shock it so much and do more harm than good.

Advice would be nice.

1. Call the ASPCA and ask for their guidance? I think that's where I'd start. Let us know
what happens! Poor little bird! :(

2. Have you tried Animal Control?
They might help - but probably not unless the store owners give them permission.

We have netted trapped birds in the past and they survived . . . if that's any comfort.

Good luck.

4. A tiny wren got into our house, probably through the jalousie
windows on the kitchen door. I noticed the cats looking upwards and saw it flying around. So, I followed it around for a while, to keep the cats away. Eventually, it got tired and landed on the top of some curtains. I walked up very slowly, talking to the bird, and it let me take it in my hand. I released it out the front door, and it flew away just fine.

I think netting the bird, then releasing it, would be fine. I doubt it would do it any harm.

5. After 3 days, this poor little thing is probably near the end
but netting it might be an option if the store will allow it. Just be aware that they probably won't due to legal considerations and the fact that they'd worry you'd collide with something and break it.

Wanting to save that poor lost bird is commendable. It breaks my heart to see them, too. However, if you're rebuffed by store management, it's a lesson that we can't rescue everybody and everything.

Thank you for caring so much. It's nice to know there are people like us out there.

6. call the health department
it's a public health issue if there is a bird dropping feces over food products.

7. Thats a pretty good idea...
I'm positive that the store wouldn't want any violations reported on it. That might goad them to do something about the situation.

8. One would think the bird would get hungry flying around a store all day.
Somebody should rip open a package of sunflower seeds or some other similar food substance that a bird would actually eat. Which would both keep the poor birdie alive and make it easier to catch it.

10. update : Actually spoke with the Manager : The guy has been trying to catch it with a net for
3 days , with no success.

I offered to help him with the effort : not allowed

I don't know whether to believe him or not ... I have a feeling their plan is to starve it ... I am calling health services. Maybe a little fire under his ass will force the Manager-Kid to put some effort into it.

11. I can't offer you any specific advise, but I would like to thank you for caring.
We have an obligation to care for all the little creatures who have lost so much of their natural habitat to humans.

You are a kind person for caring, and I appreciate it and thank you very much for what you're doing to help that little bird.
