Why didn't Sherrod go to the White House directly rather than CNN?

She said she was called and was told my A Ms. Cook that they wanted her resignation. They could not wait until she got home as she was driving at the time. she said Ms. Cook told her to pull over and text them her resignation. I imagine this Ms Cook was doing Vilsack's dirty work.
